Good news - ImageFX is a big part of the Amiga history, and apparently now also a part of the future!

Way to go guys

Good to hear.

I wonder if Trevor is trying to buy the domain amiga.com.

I would have already some ideas what to do with it...

I never really understood why ImageFX is popular. I would have preferred a new version of FxPaint. I think FxPaint is a much more modern program.

same here. i much prefer fxpaint and arteffect to imagefx. but for whatever reason the latter was always popular. i'm just glad A-EON is investing so heavily in amiga commercial software -- it's been a long time since we've seen this much commercial investment in the amiga market. i hope they go from strength to strength.

in fact -- while i'm on the subject, think about what has been accomplished since the lawsuit ended: two new systems shipped, at least one more on the way, continued OS development, an app-store, new commercial games, new commercial software.... things are really looking up. admittedly they were near rock bottom a few years back, but, still, the renewed development of imagefx is yet another step to a healthier, more sustainable platform.

simply because imagefx as well as adpro and similar software dates back to the dark ages when photoshop clones like art affect were not even in remote sight, not to speak of fxpaint, whatever it is. there was no common work flow paradigms as today and usually no way to directly display and manipulate true color image, so this software may appear strange and awkward to someone who had no experience with genuine image manipulation tools on amiga at its day and age. but then this was the times when amiga was popular and therefore the software available for it may be considered popular in contrary to products that became available after its decline.

Actually, the latest IFX version is by far the most powerful gfx program Amiga has ever had. One might criticize the uniqueness of the interface, but once you get the grips with it, it's pretty much untouchable by anything else our platform has ever had. Many of the things IFX can do, cost -even today- extra money to do with Photoshop. Not to mention its animation. And batch processing capabilities. And Cinemorph. And Arexx automations. It's a beast of a program guys!

@Vulture

Well said. +1

And the program itself is very modular, flexible.

Actually, didn't GVP release the first few versions of ImageFX?

That's great news guys, well done. Any chance of getting Photogenics for us too? A bug fixed and OS4 native version would be great.
Paul Nolan is still about in America and am sure would listen to offers for a program he no longer develops!!!

@Vulture

Yes I agree, ImageFX is way more power and an image processor than any other Amiga gfx app (though I'm working on that ) . The interface is unusuall but actually well organised, the learning curve is fairly short.

The one thing that lets it down is the paint / drawing type tools don;t work "real time" but in stroke followed by an update. So for free hand work (be that touching up or a drawing from scratch ) it's not so good.

However, ImageFX comes with the Magic Server for sharing image buffers between apps real time, and SketchBlock supports this. So you can open an image in ImageFX and SketchBlock simultaneously, performing free hand editing in SketchBlock and image prcessing in ImageFX.

Sounds awesome...

When I read something like this, it seems like news from some parallel universe....

Bought some 20 years old software, which should run on some new overpriced hardware...

I respect the effort but why the hell do all insist on PPC hardware, when it is so out-of-the-date and super expensive?

Is Mac less Mac because it runs on Intel now?

I like Amiga, but I will never buy PPC boards at this prices...

Not to mention that whole Amiga concept of separate chips for certain actions is not valid on PPC architecture any more. So why not to switch to cheaper hardware for the future?
