| I've never been fond of glow icons for the simple fact they glow. Don't know why that is, I just thought 'glowing' was a strange theme to have. Computers, disks, drawers etc. don't glow. |

| Will it be possible to have rounded edges on windows in OS4? I'm not too fussed if this is not the case, I'm just curious. : ) |

Two things to look out:
- My backdrop isn't the default backdrop - You can change the color, ourline/shadow and size of the font - I don't have the proper default look installed.

Can't say I agree, but Windows does use a different approach with the shadows. They put more than one pixel border around it, one a bit darker, and one a bit brighter. On a bright background, things are hard to read too. _________________ Seriously, if you want to contact me do not bother sending me a PM here. Write me a mail

| Excellent! Crisp and clean!
Will the new beta owners get this new set of icons, or is this for the final release??
Keep up this great work, and thanks for the continued screenshots!

Yes, fonts _can_ be anti-aliased, but I was referring to icons: if you look close, I surrounded the icons with a black border and then blurred it... something that currently can't be done - alpha-channel would help, but we can expect that only for later releases, as WB, icons and many other things will be reworked.
Well... you know what? I can't shut up as promised. I gotta say a couple of things (that maybe have just been said - sorry if it sound repetitive) that I hope will be taken into account for the next versions of WB: - please, remove the resize gadget and make windows resizeable from all sizes - please, remove window scrollbars when they are not needed - please, offer the opportunity of having a completely flat aspect (dunno how much the current prefs allow this, so just ignore this in case it's already possible) OK, I'll stop it here (note that this is not meant to be a rant, I'm just speaking my mind hoping that this little feedback will be useful)

There is no new workbench yet, it is that simple. The rewrite of Workbench is scheduled for 4.1.

| Sorry but I agree with BrianHoskins, the icons are not clearly defined enough for my liking, I think an outline or a drop shadow would help, also the grey text is kinda hard to read below them, the trashcan icon has a lot of dithering, surely with 256 colours per icon, dithering shouldnt be noticeable.
However on a final note, they are a big improvement over the old icons _________________ Join the Amigaworld.net Supporters Scheme and get your Supporter Tag

Ok, here's a screengrab of my windows desktop, using the same backdrop featuring in your screenshot. I haven't modified any of the colours, its what windows has picked. I don't know about you but I think the text stands out pretty well. |

I personally find it very confusing when scrollbars pop up or go away without my control. Apple for example also has permanent scrollbars. It's a matter of taste I guess.

You mean a completely flat window border and stuff? That is possible, you can make them appear completely flat, with no gradients, no border, nothing. Just a single color all over. You can also remove/replace the glyphs to make it even flatter I don't suppose I can inline an image here, otherwise I could have put up a shot. _________________ Seriously, if you want to contact me do not bother sending me a PM here. Ehrm, I don't get it.... If you go to Font preferences, and use the "Text & Field" setting, the Workbench screen will look almost the same.
I thought you where referring to Windows XP (which has the same Text with dropshadow effect like in my screenshot).
I don't really see the point. _________________ Seriously, if you want to contact me do not bother sending me a PM here. Write me a mail

I guess "liking" is the keyword Mason will probably read the comments, though, so keep them coming

That's because it is the old trashcan. Mason forgot to include the new one. I didn't notice it until later _________________ Seriously, if you want to contact me do not bother sending me a PM here. Write me a mail

UGH! NO! NO DROP SHADOWS!!!!
But I agree that some of the icons are difficult to "read", although I think that's partly due to the choice of backdrop colour in the workbench windows.
I was thinking that perhaps an outline (black) might help.
BTW the trash can icon (and a couple of others) are still not updated yet, they're from OS3.9 |

| I just want to add my support to BrianHoskins and DaveyD. The icons badly need a black or dark gray outline. Many of the icons look really bad ATM IMO.

| Hummm......
This damn blue.
I don't like new icons, any os.. Windows XP, KDE, MacOsX.... To much "oil paint" for me... With pastel colors.

Ah, yes! I forgot about this feature! Great! And would it be possible to select resizeability without keypress?
Anyway, what I was really concerned about is the dead space of windows' bottom borders: I've always been under the impression that it's something that won't go away (speaking of just the WB windows, of course).

I see your point. Again, I'm mostly concerned about dead space: it would be cool if we had the chance dictate the behaviour...

Precisely!

WOW! Just gimme a chance to select the thickness of the outlines and you make me happy! You see, I'd like to have a manga-ish look... simple colors, high contrast, uncluttered, polished, eye-relaxing view...
Quote:

Yes, I knew this: but it's just a part of the wicked things what I have in mind... you see, I hate today's "realistic" gfx/styles!

Please do it if you have a chance... but not at the cost of stealing time to AOS4 coding

| I must say i was a bit dissapointed, mainly because i really value and respect Mason's work and my hopes for this new icon set were really high.
The quality varies from really nice to not so good and that is the problem. Nearly all the icons in the dockies folder aren't really good. Others like wbclock, the dosdrivers and some more really don't fit in. _________________ A.miga D.emoscene A.rchive

| I can agree that some icons are a bit bright in themselves, so a black border could be good here an there. Something that i just dont like are the blue drawers, they are hideous. But the pointer icon in prefs are supernice. And i do like dithered icons, dont know why but they seem so solid and comforting. _________________
