@Trezzer

Upping the stack seems to get rid of the exiting problems.
I also noticed that with the default stack size, my machine froze for a second after quitting AWeb.
With the bigger stack it doesn't freeze anymore after quitting.

OS4 Version of Aweb works great for me, and as others have said, it's faaast! The only thing I can see wrong is it doesn't animate animated avatars (GIF's?).

Hi All,

Aweb works great here after I put it on it's own screen. In 32-bit color.

At least here Aweb doesn't like to be run on the Workbench screen. I got a lot of graphic coruption and after a while it locked up my machine.

I get no grim reapers now, no graphic corruption, no lockups. So put it on it's own screen.

Here's my experience:-

I used the installer to install into a new directory.
I ran AWeb from there and there were no pictures.
I changed the image viewers from internal to plug-ins - still no pictures.
I then read the read.me about flushing all old libraries.
I rebooted my A1 and ran AWeb from its new directory and it worked perfectly and VERY fast.
I made sure I had viewers set to AWeb plugins and now I am very happy indeed. This thing is like lightning!!

Also, I now have animatewd gifs for the first time in ages.

Try using aweb plugins for your images instead of the internal decoders. This also removes the white boxes problem.

Settings/browsersettings/viewers

Fast, neat, pretty. I just had to boost the stack a bit, though with 256Mb to play with this wasn't exactly a big deal.

Don't forget, if you use the plugins you need to assign JPEGTMP: as well

"It runs on my A1G4XE with AOS4 beta (prerelease update).
It is faster than iBrowse.

But it crashed when I tried to login at Amigaworld.net"

Try increasing the default stack, I seen at one report saying that it need more...

If increasing stack does help plaese let me know the min requirement you find, it seems to differ from place to place.

Unfortunately here (g3@666 os4update), it works really unstable :(

Um it was compiled on a G4 but I didn't specify processor type so it should be okay...

Try upping the stack.

"It runs on my G4/800 A1 as well but when i come to login to
Amigaworld it says welcome but does not actually login."

Did you accept the cookie?

"Plus i have to accept cookies here thru Aweb but not Ibrowse-what gives?
I also get the grim reaper when quitting."

It's an option set in Networks/Privacy, you can choose 'allways' 'ask' or 'never'.

"Yes, I have the white boxes too.

Quiting Aweb seems to be very unstable. I actually got a recoverable alert.
Shouldn't it have been trapped by Grim Reaper?"

The white boxes are because you are using internal decoder, which essentially meams datatypes. The datatypes decoder
doesn't supported transparency (apart from some gifs), and also don't support animations.

Opions differ but I always use the plugins, they are also faster...

I'm not sure but thsi instabilty seem to be associated with peopple using the inetrnal decoder
maybe there's aproblme there.

BTW I'm only using 20K stack and hardly get a grim reaper at all!

I have just been alerted to a upadated SDK for AmiSSl so SSl support will come sooner rather than later.

"Page rendering is really fast but the way it handles cached pages is a real pain (as always was in AWeb), found myself having to delete the cache entirely before I could get websites to update correctly or to log into Amigaworld."

This is a common problem, you need to go to menu "settings/Networks settings"
You will see a cache tab, set verify copy to allways, and most login / update problems will dispappear.

Unfortunatly the default appears to be "once per session" which is not allways helpful.

I might suggest we change that.

*** Hint to every one reading this thread***.

Install the settings I put in the archive. They set up the plugins an few mimetypes and the OS4 fonts

It works a dream once you've done that.

"HMK:im not a user of the prereleases, im a betatester.
and i get that message when i try to install aweb...
copying the files over works fine but i cant view pictures (gifs??)"

Hmm no pictures is odd...

Try unarchiving to Ram: and runing direct from the archive. If you still get no pictures
select menu "Settings/Browser settings" and look at the viewers tab. You should see image mime types
They should be set to Internal (uses datadtypes) or awebplugins (best option IMO)

Do you get loads of save requesters?

I've swapped the image decoder over to Internal to try and replicate some of these crash
problems, my stack is still 20000 let's see what happens when I quit (answer in nextpost obviously )

BTW the white boxes are scaled transparent gifs, The internal datatype based decoder can't do sacled and transparent at the same time, can't rememebr why offhand might have been due to te underlying datatype.

The most annoying problems that I'm have using AWeb on this site at the meoemt is that thread mode doesn't work
on the list of messages (it uses a #12345 type of thing to reference the article number and AWeb doesn't send anything after the hash back to the server, [you're not supposed according to the standards])

And every time I post the thread retuen with no comment enabled so aI have to refresh a second time

Do people get thses problems on other browsers?

@broadblues

Yep crashed on exit, a rather uninformative grim reaper report.

So it's official for some reason the internal image decoder needs a lot more stack.

I am using awebppc on a A1SE with uboot 1.1.1 and
no OS4.0 update. I must say it works faster then
ibrowse but i have no pictures when surfing. When
i load my local homesite from harddisk everything
is fine with the pictures.

I've never been a fan of Aweb until now, it really has improved alot since the days when I used to use it on my A1200.

At first I had some problems with it such as crashing, broken images and little white squares on aw.net. After increasing the stack, changing the gif viewer from internal to plugin and increasing the image cache memory these problems went away. It really flies, @Aweb dev team, well done! PS where's the default fastlink to amigaworld.net ?

Upped my stack here and it doesn't give any more Grim Reapers on quitting, but... there's always a but isn't there? It makes any (most notable IBrowse) program I run after quitting it give a Grim Reaper!

In a "Oh look I,ve messed up your system but you dont know it till you try to run something else" kinda way!
