@AV

Not gonna jump on yer. The original version runs under MorphOS anyway, since it supports WarpUP API and Warp3D (with HW accelleration if you have a Voodoo 3)

Seems it occasionally hangs in the same places it used to on my CSPPC though...some menu freezes, occasional freezing with some sound fx....I don't care so much, it's not like I ever played it really, just bought it to support Amiga platform development.

@Thread

Good to see progress on this, in addition to increasing development for OS4

Assuming OS4 gets finished then all I need is for an A1 to be 100 quid ($180) cheaper and I'll probably buy in.

Haha!

I haven't yet downloaded & installed but I have just read the readme (I hope Hyperion are alright with me quoting this):
Quote:
Say yes when it asks you to overwrite files (actually, saying "yes" is not sufficient; you should press the y key on your keyboard, but you get the idea).

Quality!

They should release a demo version

I agree. Every programs should be released as a demo (crippled) version.

Ah poop,

I just installed a fresh Freespace since I've never got into it on classic hardware, extracted the archive into the Freespace directory. Run the GUI. Presses "Save and Launch Freespace" but all that happened is the GUI closed down.

I have 512mb RAM on a G4-XE, I have tried with & without network enabled & my CD in both drives.

Any ideas?

FuZion.

@Toaks

Yep! I read the ReadMe file before doing anything, before I even downloaded the file.

The only one that MAY cause a problem is the crashing when I get to the registration point when installing Freespace from the original CD. Could this be the problem? If so, how can I overcome it?

Thanks, FuZion.

Yeah I will buy it again if it works with the OS4EMu under MorphOS too! ;) Great work, but the original sort of works under MorphOS now I heard.

@FuZion:

If you have the PPC SnoopDos, can you run that while starting?

Also, try to remove the "VideoPlayer = ..." line in the prefs file.

This is really cool stuff and makes me wish I had an AOne with OS4... but I am waiting for the release version.

No, sorry, we don't have a webshop (yet?). You should order at your local dealer.

They're both about the same price. I should have checked more thoroughly before ordering about the shipping. ORdered it from KDH, but ends up as 34 EUR after shipping etc is added. I suspect Versalia would be about the same but as I said, I should have checked first.

chrisY:well 34 euro is still cheap....compared to some other shops which still sells the game for 50 ukp.

Thanks for the update, Hyperion!

Sadly, it doesn't work for now. I installed the update over the installation I tried after the prerelease update. The registration for this installation didn't crash, so I could actually try the old version of Freespace on os4.

Strangely, the new version seems to behave in exactly the same way as the old version on os4. There is the Hyperion video on startup, then I can enter my name. It complains that it can't save the game and that I have probably too little memory (I have 256MB). When I choose continue, there is a guru 80000003. I can ignore it and get to the hangar. When I want to start the mission, the game hangs.

I am sure that I have overwritten the freespace.exe file with the updated one.

I will try again tomorrow with a fresh install...

Edit:Ok, I have done the fresh install now and not tomorrow and it works now! Thank you again!

Alex.

@Rogue

First, many thanks for this early Christmas present

I installed the game from Freespace CD - all went well until the registration part - which I could not complete because of missing wizard lib. Based on readme file I assume this is ok?

I then duly copied the files from update archive to the Freespace drawer, then launched the new FS Launch prog. I followed the instructions from read me file and was able to calibrate my CH Jetstick I had connected to A1 gameport. So far so good.

When I launch the game, the graphics get garbled - everything in the screen is seen in three slightly horizontally interlaced frames. I get three mouse cursors too! The game (while looking quite confusing) is still working, but when I launch into the first training mission I notice that the analog joystick is not responding at all.

Any ideas what could be wrong? The machine is A1 XE G4 800 MHz, 512 MB RAM, Radeon 7000, OS4 Pre-Update 1.
