Software News   Software News : WookieChat 1.5 Released (And now 1.52)
posted by jahc on 1-Mar-2005 1:00:01 (5465 reads)
WookieChat 1.52 is now available to download from the WookieChat homepage and OS4depot.net.

68k and OS4 versions available in the one archive.

UPDATED! See read more for info

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
UPDATED to 1.52 :
"Fixed memory getting trashed, which prevented the 68k version from running very well or at all.
Bugfix: when a user types a command that WookieChat doesnt yet recognise, it sends that command raw to the server. On 68k systems, these 'non-directly supported' commands caused the system to hang. fixed."

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
UPDATED to 1.51 :
"The only change in this release is that the separate Timer Task I've been using has been removed, and is now using timer.device instead. This task was taking up 99% CPU time on MorphOS for some reason."
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Basically just a minor update to get rid of some annoying bugs.

WookieChat is an AmigaOS IRC Client used for chatting on Internet Relay Chat networks (in more or less real time in text form).

Check out a new screenshot of the mIRC-classic colour theme.

Changes 1.5
-----------
- Rewritten the socket code in preparation for implementing dcc send. It now uses WaitSelect() instead of GetSocketEvents(), which are different ways of handling multiple internet connections, but they both do the same job in the end.
- Bugfix: I think I've finally fixed the "connecting in the wrong tab" bug. Multiple servers should connect in their correct tabs now.
- Bugfix: No longer brings up a Grim Reaper on OS4 when you are connected to a server, then double click on a servername in the server selection window to connect to a second server.
- No more crashes when too much text is entered or pasted into wookiechat's chat string gadget. Also splits the lines up if they are too long to send in one go.
- Bugfix: No longer quits if you click on button gadgets in the DCC Transfer Window without selecting a DCC transfer first.
- mIRC colour codes are now filtered out, so channels where colour is used quite heavy will be readable. I will eventually have full support for these codes, but thats not a high priority at the moment.
- Optional auto-accept for DCC File Transfers added. Also automatic actions taken for files that already exist (overwrite, resume, cancel,or ask)
- Keyboard shortcut added for closing tabs (RAmiga + Z)

68k version still totally stalls the sys. I can see a hit, I can still move the mouse too, but that's about it

Is it usefull if I would get the digicam and snapshot the hit like that?

That pisses me off. I gotta get the 68k version going again.

-EDIT-
well, I tried to fix memory leaks in this version, but I've removed some of that code now and WookieChat 68k is now back to the stage of being able to connect to a server, BUT 90% of the time, in the middle of connecting to a server, the string containing your nickname gets overwritten with garbage (i dont know why).. and because of the way I've made the program, makes it impossible to join channels or do much..

Can some MOS guys (and 68k people) check out this version and see if it runs well?

Sorry for the bugs.. its really frustrating.

-EDIT2- Oh, you can tell if the nick string has been messed up by clicking on the server button at the bottom to deselect it, then click it again to make it selected again.. then in the window title it should show your chosen nickname there.. "jahc is connected to uk.amigaworld.net" or whatever.

Thanks to Piru, I seem to have fixed the 68k version.. still eats up RAM though so I need to correct that. I just posted to ann.lu:

The version string is identical, but the new version that runs on WinUAE and MOS is available here:
http://wookiechat.amigarevolution.com/WookieChat_68k_beta

I'll do a proper release soon, and try and fix some of these memory leaks.

I'm eager to try it too here but I have probs connecting to the http://wookiechat.amigarevolution.com/ domain from here. It does resolve to an IP address, but it times out.

*** EDIT ***

Got it now, works, no hits either

jahc,

One major thing I like in AmIRC that Wookie is lacking imo is that I can press the slider in the output field one up. After being away for a short period I can continue where I left. Wookie scrolls to the bottom as soon as a new message appears or after going to another Tab.

Also Galaxynet gives some problems:

For the rest I'm quite impressed by what it can do allready. Come to think of 1 sidenote too. The fact that there are Tabs for different servers is great, but after connecting to for instance Amigaworld, there are 2 tabs, 1 server and 1 channel. Imo these could be combined? Saves 50% tabs.

Bug. I think that works if you scroll 2 fields up. Need to sort that out, but it was never really an issue for me. I will try and fix it though.

Yes, definately something to think about.

wookiechat v1.52 available.. (another minor release, but still kinda major because it fixes some critical bugs)

Changes 1.52:

- Fixed memory getting trashed, which prevented the 68k version from running very well or at all.
- Bugfix: when a user types a command that WookieChat doesnt yet recognise, it sends that command raw to the server. On 68k systems, these "non-directly supported" commands caused the system to hang. fixed.

get it from os4depot.net , my site is down for some reason.

How does that work if you have 1 server and 2 or more channels?

Then it's a little less than 50% you can save

@jahc

Hmm, I got a stack overflow today (1.52). And the app has 200k of stack. (OS4 told me that the stack was about to be exceeded)

From: I'm actually flying into a bug!

IMO the dedicated server tab is just fine - if you combine them how do you tell the servers apart?

The raw string-to-server is a good addition, thanks.
