Software News   Software News : Genesis / Megadrive Plus is here, finally
   posted by Olle on 30-Mar-2005 9:44:35 (7334 reads)
Here is the long awaited Sega Genesis / Megadrive emulator.

As i am in a hurry i cannot write a long text, but please notice
that this is NOT a straight port. Alot of work was needed, and i
also made a MorphOS port, which unfortunately didn´t work straight away, so
i will send the sources back to Charles MacDonald, and any MOS-coder
can try to make a new compile from that code.

Thanks to Toaks for kicking the right butts in the right time, and
to Restore2003 for never letting us down with his banners.

Link is here, snapshots are sent, but not active yet.

Genesis Plus @ OS4Depot

Enjoy, now i'm off for some IceCream in the sun.

What format do the megadrive ROMs need to be in? As I have looked around the internet and only found *.bin files, which seem to cause crashes.

thanks

Lewis

@All
Bin files should work fine.

However as many has reported strange problems, i will make a new update later tonight, hopefully fixes some problems. (atleast the escape from fullscreen)

To completely turn this thing around, could all users that manage to run games please report here, also their computer spec..

Thanks

Thanks for this emulator Olle!

I too am getting Reapers on my A1-G4 XE.

After a little testing I get the Reaper whenever I try to start Genesis Plus. That's with sound, without sound, fullscreen, windowed, any buffer settings & this is with packed or unpacked files.

I HAVE got it working however. It works every time so long as I run a game in SMS Plus first, quit & THEN run Genesis Plus. Then it works flawlessly (I have only seen GFX mess on the background of Sonic the Hedgehog when you start the bonus game (The rotating level), but a few screens scrolling later & the backgrounds are ok).

Hope this goes someway to fixing the problem.

Cheers again, FuZion.

@Fuzion
That sounds totally insane. , shouldn´t be like that.

@All

I have submitted new files for os4depot.net, will probably be updated later on. The change is that escape-button works for both Genesis and TGEmu (stupid bug), also the genesis emulator is not stripped.

Report if it is working without stripping, still works fine here.

@Olle

It is a little mad. I will test it out by launching a few other programs to see if GPlus runs after those are run. At a first guess I wondered if it may have something to do with the audio... But that's all it is. A complete guess.

I'll keep you posted if I spot any other trends.

FuZion.

@Olle

First off ... Thanks!! I have waited a long time for this.

It does run on my system... sort of...

That is to say:
1) sometimes it will crash(lockup) my system when I load a rom, but not all the time.

And the killer 2) If I play a game and save it, it does not generate a save file.

I like played a game for 5 hours and saved it about 4+ times along the way.
When I tried to load any of my saves it said that there wasn't a saved game present.

Other than that it runs good.

for the book:

A1 G4-XE 800mhz
512MB ram
I have installed all the updates except this last firmware update (I'll get to it soon)
