Software News   Software News : NHL and Amiga Announce NHL-Amiga Branded Content
posted by DaveyD on 3-Oct-2005 23:00:00 (6275 reads)
Hockey fans around the world can play a variety of NHL-branded computer
games across wired and wireless devices.

October 4, 2005 - San Francisco, CA - NHL and Amiga.Inc. announced today a cooperative marketing and branding agreement where Amiga will create and jointly market NHL-branded applications through the co-branded nhl.shopamiga.com website.

Further, they will jointly enable leading carriers, operators and digital computing device OEMs to bundle this content in their most popular devices.

As hockey enthusiasts around the world visit NHL.com, they will have access to a thrilling variety of games, puzzles, and musical applications for personal computers, gaming devices, mobile handsets and other computing devices.

The National Hockey League commands a global audience, as one-third of the players originate from nations outside of North America. These countries are well known for their tremendous hockey fanbase and cutting edge adoption of mobile and Internet technologies.

Annually, the NHL plays to more than 20 million fans in hockey arenas throughout 30 major markets in the U.S. and Canada. NHL.com itself averages 5-6 million unique visitors per month, plus draws additional interest from affiliate sites AHL, ECHL, UHL, CHL and ELITE leagues that bring hockey to additional greater metropolitan areas.

The NHL also enjoys coverage from leading media and network partners, including NBC, OLN, CBC, TSN, HD-Net, RDS, Westwood One, Sirius Satellite Radio and XM Satellite Radio.

Amiga lets consumers enjoy rich-media NHL and hockey-based content featuring extraordinary audio-visual quality, high-speed interactive gaming, education and edutainment from all of NHL.com Arcade, Kids and Wireless sections of the NHL website.

The 'Fun and Games' section of NHL.com, provides online and cellular gamers of all ages with a perfect home. "Amiga is a great fit with NHL.com's commitment to provide fans around the world with compelling and entertaining content," said Keith Ritter, President NHL ICE. "We are thrilled to offer such high quality content across a myriad of devices."

"Amiga continues to find new and innovative ways to provide entertaining content", said Greg Sigel, Amiga's Vice President of Sales and Marketing. "Our developers are already busy creating new content to make the most of the market exposure that we are gaining through our efforts with the NHL and their industry leading partners."

Ocean Software were scheduled to release Electronic Arts' NHL '95, on classic Amiga, the same time they did PGA Euro Tour Golf.

Does anyone know how far this got before it was canned, or whether there is a demo version or anything like that out there?

Could have been a definitive version - more colours than Megadrive, faster than SNES.
(PC/PSX versions are graphically OTT IMO).

Although it is a good thing that Hyperion are allowed autonomy over the developement of OS4, it would be nice to Amiga have some involvelement in the marketing and sale of OS4 once it goes gold.

I hope they stay as far away as possible. But I am sure once they smell money they will be all over it. Even Mehdi would do better then these guys.

I had to double check the url there for a moment. I thought I'd strayed over to Amiga.org.

You know.....I find it interesting that.....
Hyperion Entertainment, a company with a games rep, is developing an OS.
And Amiga, a company with a technology rep, is developing games. ?-)

What the hell are they doing developing games?
Did I miss something somewhere.....anywhere?

I mean.....what sort of lame stuff is going to come out of them?
What have they got to show for themselves?
I mean, what sets them apart from all the other games companies apart from being the newbies in the market?

AmigaInc have well and truly fallen off the edge of the earth as far as I'm concerned.

I mean what the hell makes you wake up one day, buy AmigaInc, and then decide that, "no, I'm not actually going to something with the legacy" but develop some lame games for the National Hockey League. I mean it was one thing to develop/market AA(and do a terrible job at that), at least that was arguably a useful and cool technology....but then to market all this lame crap to make a quick buck.....

Can your priorities be so skewed.

Practically anyone else who bought this company would have done more with it that this $hit!!!
EWWWW!!! It get's me so frustrated. It's like water torture watching these barztuds allow the great Amiga name and legacy to ROT!!!

Thank God, OS4 escaped before the KMOS takeover.....

I would say how the mighty have fallen if not for the fact that they were dead and burried long ago. So much for Amiga Resurrection from these Zombies.

Ok. Going back to my happy place now.
We have no hotdogs!!! And the hotdog company is now selling manure!!!

@BigBentheAussie

I agree with you. If they atleast had OS4 more visible on their website. But it seems
low like low priority for them. I wouldn't recommend a single sole to go to Amiga.com
and learn about new Amigas and OS versions if somebody asked. I would point them to here instead.

> Hockey

Hockey is popular in Canada, Pakistan, India, Australia, Netherland etc.

The popularity of NHL in US had fallen behind NBA, NFL, NCAA, NASCAR, Golf etc.
In US NHL is having "lockout" problem in 2004 - 2005, because of salary / payment /financial problem.
According to a poll, the majority US sports fan comment about NHL: is "Who Cares?"

EDIT:Took out the trolling comment.

I'm in the US and I care!

Hockey is one of the few sports I like to watch.

In my opinion:

Basket ball; He shoots he scores it is now 99 to 98 so who cares?

American Football; Is OK, but too few games. Can't compare to the 80 or so hockey games. In addition, why do they call it football anyway, they don't really use their feet like soccer does.

Euorpean Football(Soccer); I like to watch these too, but again too few games! That is why they have riots, each game is too important.

BaseBall; Again it is OK, but it still isn't as cool as Hockey.

The things I like about Hockey are that is is fast, high skilled and you have to really work to get a goal. Oh wait, the Red Wings play tonight! I'll be watching that for sure! Don't believe in polls much myself. The polls could have been done in downtown Detroit where all they know is Football or Bouncy ball.

Hate to burst your bubble, but I think Palm OS is going to be a thing of the past.

Palm's Treo to use MS OS

Probably but so will be Pocket Windows for Smartphones.
Appararently the developers at Palm do also have a Treo with Symbian OS! Rumors say it will be shown behind doors at the Symbian Smartphone Congress this month!

FYI 98% of all Smartphones do use Symbian OS!

I'd hate to interrupt this wonderful love/hate conversation for a bit of news but..

NHL.com has now posted the press release on their site.

..you may now resume your regular regime of pounding and beating on Amiga, NHL, PalmOS and any other topic you find interesting.
