Announcement   Announcement : AmiRevival 2006 CANCELLED
posted by Ryu on 3-Jul-2006 17:51:54 (7241 reads)
After much deliberation it saddens me to announce AmiRevival 2006 has been cancelled.

I and a few other team members have tried hard to secure exhibitors over recent weeks with not much success. We had been given assurances by a few organisations that they would attend, or at least their products would be there but due to a lack of communications with them I have made the decision the show would not be viable.

Anyone who has purchased tickets will be getting a full refund in the next few days and if anyone has made any bookings that will leave them out of pocket please do contact me. I will do my best to try and compensate.

Many thanks to those who did pre-book tickets, both visitors and exhibitors, and thanks to those who contacted me over the past couple of weeks.

Further more I (Ryu) will be taking a step back from the scene for the foreseeable future, I will keep IntuitionBase.com online and will update it from time to time but I won’t be sinking much effort into it. The Scunthorpe Amiga Group will remain but no meetings are planned, and I won’t make any more plans until things pick up again.

Thanks to all those who have supported me over the years, I hope to keep in touch with you all!

Adios and thanks for all the fish

I know that feeling Ryu... some of our members asked me to organize a Boinged In Belgium Event in 2006 but I really do not see the point for the moment if you have only 20 attendees and close to zero exhibitors.

Ofcours if there are *real* people interested in visiting or exhibiting here in antwerp in september they should mail me asap and I do my best not to join the negativism and make it a winner.

That's a bummer - just returned from 0xAA and I have to see this. I think I did a good job talking Dennis (Minimig!) into attending, and I wanted to check for flights today. Too bad that I had way too much work before the 0xAA show that I did not answer all my eMails, but one reason was that I wanted to meet Dennis and announce our appearance together.

Oh well, maybe for the next show. I have lots of stuff in the works, and with Dennis, Adam and E3B working on new hardware, there will be lots of material to show.

I like the idea of a common Commodore/Amiga show for all Europe. Choosing the location will be the hard part. I'd vote for "close to one of those cheap airports", so everyone can book one of those "flight for a buck" tickets - this will surely bring in lots of visitors.

To quote Jens.. "Bummer"

Anyhow Cya Darren.. and "see you on the flip side."
(a bad quote from the last issue of CU Amiga)

So anyway, its time to start pushing for a new BigBash me thinks.
Us Brits need an Amiga show!

You mean the sales of > 100.000 Zeta OS plus existent BeOS-installations compared to < 2.000 OS4 installations?

Wouldn't surprise me after 15 years of doing basically everything just _plain wrong_. But yeah, please keep on defending the choice of licensed-dongled expensive custom PPC-hardware until the last nail is hammered into the coffin.

Without a show, no. And I am not sure if Adam is already up for it. He might be still working on the problem with the CPU-modules (with "Estimated Availability June 19/2006").

No, i meant that ZetaOS to BeOS has as improvements as AOS 3.9 has to AOS3.1

Bad news, but please stay!
We need so cool Amiga users like you.
Thanks for the organisation of the event. We need you if we have a new ppc hardware.

Pity. I was looking forward to launching MindSpace 1.0 on a big screen to hundreds (well dozens maybe) of potential customers. Never mind.

However, MindSpace 1.0 will still be launched on 29 July and we will extend our launch offer to anyone who might possibly have attended AmiRevival.

So, if you register here on or before 23.59 29 July (my time) you will pay a miniscule £10 rather than the normal, exorbitant £15.

Best wishes to Ryu, Giga and the others - it was a good try lads. Your efforts are appreciated.

"AmiRevival 199x/200x cancelled" could in fact be a yearly headline since 1994.

Ryu,

Shame the revival was cancelled. I live in Manchester area so it would have taken a while to get there but a more central venue to the UK might be better.

The Alt-WOA at Huddersfield was great when it used to be held, but maybe one in the Midlands would suit more people, say near Birmingham (airport nearby also).

The main reason for ME not thinking of buying tickets before the event was that there is so little news about any release date of OS4 and any new software/hardware that I could not imagine what exhibitors were going to be at the show.

Some people have gone towards Amithlon, some to MorphOS, some to Pegasos, some to more obscure Amiga based OS's and other platforms so what would have been on offer ?

I have not shelled out on a µ1 as yet or any pre-release of OS4 as the price is too high for my pocket for what you get for your money, I have stayed with my Amiga 1200 with OS3.9, Mediator/Voodoo, etc and it works in the main very well, even when put up against modern PC hardware, but unfortunately there is little NEW software support, and this is desperately needed for OS4 to breath new life into the stagnant pool of serious Amiga OS users.

I would like to think there could be a venue found central to the UK for an Amiga show when the new OS4 is released, this year (irony . . similar to coppery but with less copper).

I can only imagine you put a lot of effort in to bring the show about, only to have to cancel it due to other people's lack of interest, even mine.

Keep the faith, and keep the pressure on the developers to come up with the OS release we have all been hoping for for far too long.
