What's this "Geek Port" I see the logo of on the lower right of PrometheuslBack.jpg? Anything to do with the celebrated "geek port" of the late, lamented BeBox?

"Without any serious apps to run..."

I think that's where you're going to end up with that line of thinking.

I hope a Pci->AGP Adapter will work with this board. Pci gfx cards are very rare and expensive.
Like the Efika board: http://www.bplan-gmbh.de/news/efika_art.html

While I understand the skepticisms here regarding Troika, seeing Guru Meditation's name there has given me pause because I have great respect for him and his good efforts in the past for the Amiga community.

I have not had any dealings with him personally but he has spoken about this project before with guarded optimism implying to me he may have more knowledge (and investment) then we know about.

Perhaps we may know more in a few hours as Amiwest gets underway and clears the air a bit?

I am using Firefox at the moment. All three of those links crash my browser. What gives?

I'd agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong.

Wait a minute.. 2x SATA and no PATA? So you add a hard drive and a dvd writer.. but what do you do when you want to put a second hard drive in??

The original UD Tech design had 1 PATA connector, with what looked like the option in the design to have another.

If you're going to cut out PATA altogether, I think 4x SATA is needed really.

Btw, will any PCI gfx card work in this PCI slot?

"Original design"?

The "Troika Panda" *is* the UDTech board, period. And if you look at the top of the backdrop picture in the Troika flyer, you will see the PATA connector, right where it's supposed to be.

Also, remember that the Tundra TSI107, 108 and 109 only has one single PCI bus, which is perfectly fine for lots of hardware applications, but not really what you would wish for in a desktop design. A lot of bandwidth-intensive things seems to sit on that bus. I wish Troika would have chosen a different motherboard as their "Panda", based around a more suitable system controller, like the Marvell Discovery II, III or V even.

But most of all I wish they would stop making "announcements" like this until they can show any kind of sign of being real, and having *real ability* of shipping even a batch of a few hundred pre-made UD-Tech boards (not to mention the Amy, which soon is about to turn '07) ...

Thats not what I'm hearing. They're wanting to do slight modifications. I was under the impression maybe more PCI slots, and remove some bits that werent needed like the smartcard slot.

Eveyone knows what a geek port is surely?

Oh, go on then I let you in on a little secret...

Geek Port (TM) is a revolutionary new device that allows direct human to computer interfacing, it was devloped by North Korean scientists while taking time out from testing A-bombs. Please note: geek is not included, you will need to supply your own. If you want to find out more about Geek Port see the 1990 film: Total Recall.

@ jahc

In essence, what you are talking about is designing a new motherboard ...
