Software News : Poseidon USB Bounty - Double The Cash Promotion |

The Poseidon USB Bounty (http://www.power2people.org/bounty_041.html) is about delivering a complete and working USB stack to AROS. So far we have reached 2180$ out of our goal donation of 4000$. Thank you :)
But more money is needed to reach our goal donation! How to get it faster? Let me make you an offer: for every donation you put in the bounty for the next 3 weeks, a matching donation will be made until 4000$ are reached. Nice, ain't it? You donate once, but help twice :)
Why should you put money in the bounty if you are not AROS user you ask? Well, getting USB for AROS is only part of the deal. The other part is releasing the Poseidon source codes under an open source license, meaning the same codes can later be recompiled for your system, be it MorphOS or AmigaOS... just imagine one working standard for all Amiga-like OSes... it's worth putting some dollars in my opinion!
So don't waste time and donate: http://www.power2people.org/bounty_041.html. Remember, every donation counts (and it counts twice for the next 3 weeks)! |

| The AROS Public License is just a renamed Mozilla Public License, with exactly the same conditions.
I don't know much about the internals/APIs of OS4's Sirion USB stack, but potentially some of the Poseidon driver classes could be ported to it if they were open sourced. These include 3 ethernet drivers, 3 serial/modem drivers, a PTP camera driver, webcam drivers, a joystick driver, plus others (I apologise in advance if any of this functionality is already covered by Sirion equivalents). |

| Umm.. what I wonder here is why everyone is talking that it would be then ported to MorphOS too? Poseidon IS already the official USB stack on MorphOS. How would open sourcing affect to development for MorphOS? Could it even have negative effects? There's been bad examples when program has made to open source and original author has dropped the support and control.
But in any case, Poseidon is a great stack and has been defacto on Amiga, so in that way it would be good to get it on all Amiga platforms. Maybe I would get updated version even for my SpiderII card ;) _________________ - The wiki based MorphOS Library - Your starting point for MorphOS - Software made by jPV^RNO

I agree that this was more than a fair question to ask. |
I did a bit of digging and found some info. Name Krzysztof Smiechowicz (deadwood)
Resume I've been programming for more than 10 years starting with C64 (Basic + Assembler), Amiga (AMOS + Assembler) and now PC (a lot of different environments).
After graduating from technical university (Masters Degree), I've been working in software enginnering for total of 2 years, first as software developer, now as team leader.
I'm mostly interested in .NET, but I still remember a bit of unmanaged C/C++. .. oh.. and I can write good emails and fill in Excell sheets with values nobody seems to be interested in
Apart from programming, I like playing the guitar, reading fantasy novels... and I would probably love riding a motorcycle.. had I one.

That said, out of curiosity Steven, If deadwood does indeed match my $20, will you donate anything? |
I'll gladly pay a bit once the AmigaOS 4.x version is running smoothly. After the Sputnik fiasco and others I don't pay for promises when those making the rules and taking the money can do anything they want to. _________________ ExecSG Team Lead
