WTF ??
Do you like the way OS3.9 has to reboot three times before the Wb is loaded ?
errm, no
Do you like the slow execution of 68k apps ?
Not so slow really...
Do you like the switches between both processors ?
not really a problem.
Do you like the stability isues of the countless patches 3.0 has ? bla.....
What are you on about? .. I've not had a crash with OS3.9 BB1+2 for over 6 years, and my Amiga gets heavy use.
Mart
------------------------------------------------------
Hi Mart, her is my Miggy spec.
A4000 060/PPC604e 233Mhz 128Mb ram
Quad monitor setup - CyberVisionPPC Cybervision64 AGA VlabMotion
Tocatta Highway/Norway combo Repulse Hardwired Wavetable Midi Card to motherbord
and lots of other cards often installed..
I still use the Amiga for some Video work because it's has better picture quality than normal digital TV. (not high def).
The reason I returned to OS3.9, only about 5% of my programs will work with OS4 , and the ones that do are actually slower!
The GFX performance of OS4/Picasso96 is very poor compared to OS3.9/Cybergfx, especially the menu system (OS3.9 feels about 100 times faster). Lost that Amiga feel.
Picasso96 does not handle multipul gfx cards very well (gets confused which screen is on which gfx card, and even worse)
CyberGfx handles multipul cards with ease and at lightening speed.
OS4 has no Internet support for my Highway/Norway combo.
Programs I use often which will not work with OS4:
MovieShop Songplayer1.53 ( the best mp3 player on the miggy) Tornado3D Aminet Radio AMP (mpeg vid player) and many others..
Stuff that will work, but has problems...
fxPaint (takes about 100 times longer to load and save files) PageStream4 ( as above) MidiPlay ( crashes on exit )
And everything else crashes OS4 hard
So OS4 goes onto the not used pile of software .......
Don't get me wrong, I will buy OS4 with new hardware if/when it arrives, but it better be decent hardware eg: G5 or faster...
Wol..
EDIT: Oh yeah, I forgot to add Scala MM400 in the required pile, another thread just reminded me..

sam is out of question for me atm ... and since judging by forums talk it seems to have a lot of issues still |
Currently, there are certain issues with the Flex because the new hardware is not fully supported by OS4.1 yet (quite logical: the Flex came later than OS4.1 for Sam).
However, the Sam440ep works fine, and apart from the USB stack (which can get quite picky about devices - a SW fix is needed), the system certainly does _not_ have "a lot of issues", and is generally a very pleasant experience. _________________ The Rear Window blog

i never get answer of the question in a forum how many ram OS4 use.I get only the privat info that on a 128 megabyte system 75 megabytes are free.so OS4 seem need 52 megabytes.
thats much |

The kickstart is no so tiny anymore, but you can disable stuff you don’t need to save memory.
I believe I read some where that disabling JIT will reduce memory requirement a lot, interpreted 680x0 emulation is probably horrible slow, but if you only intend to run PowerPC software, then I think you will be okay. _________________ http://lifeofliveforit.blogspot.no/ Facebook::LiveForIt Software for AmigaOS

I disagree I think TuneNet is the best MP3 player, it is also a where good general player for all kinds of formats.
AmigaAMP can play mp3 using OS4 native mp3 decoder, and it support mpga.library.

I have used AminetRadio on OS4, I know there is bugs in some custom GUI’s, but default GUI should work, try increases stack that often solves problems whit classic programs.

way not use mplayer, it does a lot more then play mpeg?

You have a 68060, your PowerPC 604e is to slow to beat your 68060, if you did have 68040 you might felt a little different about this,

Well you don’t have DMA under OS4.x on Classic, no wonder.

Mplayer ?! I don't have a PPC machine at all but I remember seing posts here that even A1 G4's struggled to keep up with real time decoding. AMP2 rules in terms of speed and it's an Amiga native app. _________________

| A1 G4 even if it is a dinosaur old hw does not struggle when playing. The '060 nearly can cope but there is even no surfing in the net meanwhile and burning a cd at the same time.
It is really the programs that can jam even this "fastest Amiga" ;)
Well, this laptop can handle more... |
