Announcement   Announcement : UAE-OSX Ultimate Bounty
   posted by DiscreetFX on 12-Nov-2009 1:16:16 (7427 reads)
Chicago, Illinois November 09th, 2009

For Immediate Release

Amiga Seeding the Success Campaign from DiscreetFX

This months Seeding the Success Campaign is going to be a little different. The winner will be a Mac OS X coder/coders that brings out a better version of UAE for Mac OS X. We like to call this version UAE-OSX Ultimate. Toni has done a fantastic job of upgrading the Windows version of UAE. Sadly he has no interest in a MacOS X port and the old maintainer of that port stopped updating it a few years ago.

Sure Mac OS X users can run Boot Camp, Fusion or Parallels and use WinUAE or Amiga Forever 2009 but that's not as fun as a OS X native version of UAE.

In an age when Windows is going out of fashion, DiscreetFX has always strongly believed in a OS X version based on the current sources of WinUAE. More ways to run AmigaOS will benefit users and developers. DiscreetFX believes in doing what it can to help make modern Amiga & Amiga like systems successful. Donate to the bounty via the link below if you want a better UAE for Mac OS X.

UAE-OSX Ultimate

Best regards

- DiscreetFX Team

@fairlanefastback That's an odd statement to make. I am a Mac user and also a Commodore fan. I used to make a site called Think Commodore which was all about Commodore emulation on Macs. There are lots of Mac users that care about Commodore emulation.

I did not say there were not a lot. I said I doubt the "average Mac user" cares. Thats a big difference.

@fairlanefastback about #16

It's true each Android based Aspire One comes with XP. But... Microsoft hates this and it caused them to loose a lot of money last quarter. They don't want anyone buying netbooks with XP since they have to sell it at such a low cost to fight off Linux. MS hate all netbooks and want the public to buy more expensive slimline laptops. Acer is doing them no favors with a Android/XP based netbook trust me. We did this promotion since Acer thought it would be a good idea.

@DiscreetFX,

Keep the news items coming and don't let the few complainers dissuade you and your enthusiasm for Amiga related products and promotions. It is easier to be an armchair complainer than a person of action that is out there trying to make things happen.

Any news that is UAE related is Amiga related and the last time I looked, this site was called AmigaWorld.net, so anything and everything Amiga related should be permitted as news here.

I hope that it does not turn into another Amigans.net with their narrow vision.

Please don't build another single platform version of UAE!

All this work goes into WinUAE, while UAE for other platforms generally lags behind or stalls completely. I'd hate to see another one-off UAE release.

I'd prefer to see a QT version with the goal that it will reach feature-parity and replace WinUAE as the primary development target.

That way Windows, Mac, Linux and even Haiku users get the very best Amiga emulation. At least if you draw in Mac and Linux developers you stand a chance of keeping momentum going.

@Clebin

Having said that, I'd still love a good OS X version so big thanks for starting the bounty!

I'm sorry but I fail to see how is Windows possibly losing ground in favor of Android (or anything else) has to do with the Amiga ecosystem...

And as well how Google is any better than Microsoft ?

@Leo

Forget history so soon? MS has a looooong history of doing evil things. Google is a saint in comparison. Google is a great company in fact and does great things for internet users. Without Google around I shutter to think what additional evil MS would be doing.

What's next, Sponge Bob and Square Paints promoting Win7?
