Oh, and any word on MOS-Team embracing it as the official "preferred" MOS filesystem ? |
First of all, the current licensing makes that rather unlikely. Also, I have some doubts if we'd allow E applications in the boot.img (who knows if that'd even work with boot.img contents being mapped as read-only, I guess only Leif can say something about that). |

I though Ext2 was only 32-bit, but supported filesizes >2 (4) GB when created with a larger block size, although at the expense of greater wasted disk space. NTFS support is currently read only (at least for us users), so hardly counts. I've been thinking of experimenting with EXT2, but haven't got around to it yet. There may be no need now
@Thread This is a great leap forward for MorphOS users, and from the developer notes has been well planned, designed and executed (hopefully). If it requires the disk to be partitioned using RDB, then I'll probably end up using it as a storage (rather than system) partition for my use (Mac min, single HDD).
Odd how the system will end up:
HFS: Boot image partition SFS: System partition IFS: Storage partition
Cool, a native 64-bit FS! Constant progress for MorphOS, it's good to see the in-demand applications/tools/components being worked on.
Thankyou to Leif for 3 years work on this. Last edited by Boot_WB on 16-Aug-2010 at 10:52 AM.

Wikipedia states maximum file size range of 16GB to 2TB for ext2, and the same for ext3 as well. (Depending on the block size.) MorphOS' ext2/3 filesystem reads/writes ext3 as well, incl. large files. I think the default block size is 4K anyway, as smaller sizes doesn't make a lot sense with current HDD sizes, so 2TB files are possible by default. _________________ MorphOS, classic Amiga, demoscene, and stuff "When a bridge is not enough, build a Viaduct!" Thanks for the info - I did have a look on the Wikipedia page after posting, but got waylaid (damn links, always tempting me with something interesting (but off-topic) to chase after ).
I was completely unaware that ext3 was also supported r/w by MorphOS. Good news _________________ Troll - n., A disenfranchised former potential customer who remains interested enough to stay informed and express critical opinions. opp., the vast majority who voted silently with their feet.

| Interesting!
I hope to see it also on other Amigalike platforms.
(did not spot any official info about other platforms yet.)
btw. 3000¤ to unlock the filesystem + tools does not seem too much. Does it count if one person orders 300 keyfiles? Last edited by KimmoK on 16-Aug-2010 at 01:44 PM. Last edited by KimmoK on 16-Aug-2010 at 01:43 PM.

Read-only works. (only allocated memory is ever modified). _________________ Selur erutangis siht

| Nice, I'd like to try it on my PegII...
What's the max(length(filesize))?
Cheers,

First problem solved. I guess an agreement could be reached for the licence. So, what else now ? :) _________________ http://www.warpdesign.fr/

| A bug has been found in version 1.13 that can cause the latest modifications to disk to be lost.. This will be fixed for next version, along with other minor bugs. Next version will come soon. _________________ Selur erutangis siht
