Software News   Software News : U-Boot 1.3.1c for Sam440ep released
   posted by m3x on 6-Dec-2010 19:16:54 (8020 reads)
Bassano del Grappa, Italy - 6 December 2010

ACube Systems is pleased to announce yet another new release of the U-Boot firmware for its line of motherboards Sam440ep and Sam440ep-flex.

What's new in this version:

* Fixed wrong setting for the MMUCR register
* Introduced a new Video Option: Console. Setting it to “Silent” will produce a more nice looking boot screen (see picture below)
* On Sam440ep-flex: if a SiliconMotion 502 is present, and it's not set as primary video card, the SM502 I/O and MEM access are disabled in PCI_COMMAND register after initialization. This prevent some problems when booting AOS4.1 in a dual gfx card setup.
* On Sam440ep-mini: if a Radeon PCI card is present, and the onboard video card is not set as primary video card, the onboard video card I/O and MEM access are disabled in PCI_COMMAND register after initialization. This prevent some problems when booting AOS4.1 in a dual gfx card setup.
* Solved a problem when assigning IRQ to a video card behind a PCI to PCI Express bridge (RadeonHD)
* Video unit and Sprite unit are switched off on SM502
* Solved a problem with the Blitter unit registers not reset to default values at powerup on SM502
* Now it's possible to set baudrate to 230400 and 307200 bps (for faster debug output)
* Changed boot logo
* Reduced font size

The updated installation guide describes in detail the usual installation method (ISO image) and alternative methods (TFTP).

You can download installation archives from:

* Sam440ep: http://www.acube-systems.biz/index.php?page=hardware&pid=1
* Sam440ep-flex: http://www.acube-systems.biz/index.php?page=hardware&pid=2

Additional information:

Please note: UBoot and UBoot updater makes use of GPL code and thus are both published under GPL.

The sources can be downloaded from:

* http://www.acube-systems.biz/index.php?page=hardware&pid=2

or, using a direct link, from:

but it couldn't complete the whole process. but now it's ok anyway.

Remember there was talk about doing the X86 emulator for starting the graphics cards on the classics.

While that would offer more choices, it shouldn't be necessary for Radeons. The initial Radeon driver code could parse the BIOS data tables and configure the card itself. That's how we did things before we had Amigaones to use the emulation instead.

@ amije

You are an old-zagar, you know that?

Use AmiDVD instead, does the job perfectly.

Can these be switched back on by the OS? The video unit is what makes the SM502 interesting.

I wonder if the same can be done for the AmigaONE's 66Mhz PCI slot and the Pegaos 2.

Sure it could be fixed for the AmigaOne (and it is indeed a problem on the A1 and I guess not only on the 66MHz PCI slot).

IIRC we even had a thread in the Linux forum, where we fixed the interrupt assignment of a multi-function PCI card with some simple U-Boot commands that could easily be integrated in U-Boot's boot script (you know, the one that executes the boota command). I guess the same could be done on the Pegasos2 with it's OpenFirmware.
On the other side this is a static fix. If you change the hardware configuration, then you also have to change this workaround.

RadeonHD cards work fine in the SE and XE's 33Mhz slots unless you've had the DMA fix done.

Hello,

I have just now made the 2 updates

Remember, my keyboard don't allow me to push the escape key for the update (this only problem).

I have used another USB keyboard from a friend and I have plugged his keyboard on the one of the front USB port of the SAM and.... same problem (verry funny).

OK, I have plugged his keyboard on the rear normal USB port for the keyboard and this time the 2 update work fine (because space key work).

Acube: When all USB ports could be used exactly the same on the Uboot ?

Sorry, I still don't get it.

If i have already installed the "Sam440_pci-mini-update" by burning the image and booting it and then AFTERWARDS, I have now installed the new U-Boot 1.3.1c update, do I have to install the Sam440_pci-mini-update again?

Thanks,
nexus

No, you don't need to apply the Sam440_pci-update again. (the same is valid for flex boards)

There's nothing funny. It's documented in the manual. The keyboard only works in the upper USB port at the back.

Hello elwood,

I use, allways, the upper USB port at the back for the keyboard (and this problem is funny, really).

With my keyboard, I can't do updates (ISO one) because just the space key not work (I could enter the uboot and choose booting from the DVD drive,etc... without problems).

With the keyboard of my friend, I have (just to see and for my curiosity) try to make the update by pluggin his keyboard on the front USB port and the result is exactly the same as my usuall keyboard (space not work at the end).

I have plugged after his USB keyboard on the upper USB port at the back and this time the space key work also.

There are something not supported at 100% with USB during the Uboot IMHO.

bye.

@all

Silly question:

I have downloaded the archive, do I burn this or extract the files from the archive and burn them to CD?
