| I think it's awesome! Best of both worlds until it all gets ported to AROS.
I do agree that all the black is not very "Amiga" looking. Is that easy to change Phoenix?
Seeing Blender run on AROS (even though it's hosted) is very cool! Have you done any render speed tests to compare it to regular Linux or Winblows? |

| @phoenixkonsole Please change the look of the Linux apps like they did in Amicignyx:
Otherwise it just look like an alien overlay coming from a video-mixer. _________________ SamFlex Complete 800Mhz System + AmigaOS 4.1 Update 4 Amiga 2000 DKB 2MB ChipRam GVP G-Force040 Picasso 2 OS3.9 BB2 AmigaCD 32

I'm not so sure that's a great idea. AFAIK, the Linux windows are overlaid on top of the entire AROS hosted display.
Assuming that's the case (it's not entirely clear, but getting tighter integration would be a *lot* more work), they won't obey the same window depth or screen changes etc., so they really *are* "alien" and not having clear visual cues to that effect would probably be really confusing to users.
Keep in mind this is a "hack" that pretty much has been achievable this quickly because AROS can run hosted under Linux as well as native. It's a good one, that might help some of us spend a lot more time in AROS, but it's still a hack. _________________ Wiki for new/returning Amiga users - Projects: ACE basic compiler / FrexxEd / Git

| I didn't know that this bounty exists. About themes and icons... you can change everything.
But i like to have a visual difference between AROS and Linux. _________________ AROS Broadway - AEROS - Aminux - AmiCloud - indieGO! Appstore - AmiWallet - VAN lossless video codec - AMC Amiga media Center -KrypUnite - LibertyNet - MinX - amigaNX

And that's the big bad point. If you see a visual difference it looks too common patched. The majority don't like that. Nor me. So I share the opinion of DAX (posting #22).
Nevertheless I may be interesting for developers.Last edited by DaFreak on 04-Oct-2011 at 05:26 PM.

| Well, you can choose the same theme for both sides. But "I" do not prefer this. Whatever: AEROS is here to offer me more freedom of choice regarding HW. I can go PPC, ARM, x64 without loosing functionality.
ARM and x64 AROS have not as much apps as x86 Version. So every gap can be filed by an Linux app. I don't need to wait for AROS drivers.. i can just use LInux.
Because of AMC and EMula i am looking to ARM and found a good playground done by Genesi.
A sub 100$ machine with AEROS + AMC + EMula and Amigaforever could be nice.
Than i like to finish things i have started. AEROS allows me to work on several things at the same time. AROS, Corebios, Supervizor, Copy-protection, PPC emulation, agressive firewall (my new hobby)
AEROS targets: Linux geeks (those for which Ubuntu is mainstream) ARM users (Genesi, Nufront) Will be one of two operating systems on the AresOne, Ares2 ... Everyone who wan't to test or use AROS on unsupported HW.
If you scroll down here you will find HW which is waiting for beeing supported. http://aresone.de/ _________________ AROS Broadway - AEROS - Aminux - AmiCloud - indieGO! Appstore - AmiWallet - VAN lossless video codec - AMC Amiga media Center -KrypUnite - LibertyNet - MinX - amigaNX

| I think this is a worthy experiment and am very impressed by the vids. A lot of Amigans need to have a second, more mainstream OS to get the full range of apps that they desire. This seems like a nicer solution, because instead of firing up a different computer (or rebooting into a different OS), you can run those "other OS" apps in the same desktop environment. It's even cleaner than AmigaOS's AmiCygnix, where you have to go into a separate screen.
Aeros is not going to be for purists, but it's definitely a nice compromise to consider, because you can spend all your time in an Amigan desktop environment and still get a wide range of apps.
It's another option on the table, so bravo. _________________ My new blog

| @Gebrochen Yes it comes for Genesi's ARM systems. AROS is free. AEROS for ARM may be not because i think about adding it as free gift to AMC and EMula and AmigaForever. In other words i am thinking about selling SD-cards. _________________ AROS Broadway - AEROS - Aminux - AmiCloud - indieGO! | @vidarh Ok, thanks for the detailed explanation. I am accustomed to what I get in Amicygnix so I thought it was possible here as well. Thanks to the Picasso96PIP feature, Amicygnix can overlay the window contents (which have received an amiga treatment beforehand) inside Workbench windows, thus the "first impact" an end user might have, is that you are looking at a single environment (since such app runs alongside native apps, looks the same and you can set a shared clipboard). Seems a better solution at the moment, but thinking about it, Edgar Schwan probably did a ton of work to make that happen. _________________ SamFlex Complete 800Mhz System + AmigaOS 4.1 Update 4 Amiga 2000 DKB 2MB ChipRam GVP G-Force040 Picasso 2 OS3.9 BB2 AmigaCD 32

| @DAX,
Yes, it's a lot more work. The upside is as you say more integration. The upside of the AEROS solution is that the Linux apps run in their own memory protected Linux processes and need no porting at all (including no recompilation). They both have their advantages. Of course neither is a substitute for a proper "native" port. _________________ Wiki for new/returning Amiga users - Projects: ACE basic compiler / FrexxEd / Git

| I assume AEROS can take use of multicore systems as well. Am I right? (example: linux apps use all cores, AROS apps use core0 or core1 ?) _________________ - KimmoK // For freedom, for honor, for AMIGA // // Thing that I should find more time for: CC64 - 64bit Community Computer?

| Hi,
yes Linux stuff can use everything. OpenCL(nvidia) is there too.
AROS stays single core but you could run multiple AROS instances. SO you could achieve something like spaces on OS X.
Or you could run Broadway, IcAROS, AspireOS at the same time. _________________ AROS Broadway - AEROS - Aminux - AmiCloud - indieGO! Appstore - AmiWallet - VAN lossless video codec - AMC Amiga media Center -KrypUnite - LibertyNet - MinX - amigaNX
