Software News   Software News : Hollywood Player 5.1 for Android out now
posted by softwarefailure on 12-Jul-2012 10:26:16 (4991 reads)
Airsoft Softwair is proud to announce that Hollywood is now also available for Android devices (ARM architecture). This makes it possible for the first time for every Hollywood user to run his Hollywood applets on smart phones and tablet computers running Android. Everything you need is the Hollywood Player for Android which is now available as a free download on Google Play. To see what Hollywood on Android looks like check out a little demo video on YouTube.

Please note that the Hollywood Player for Android requires at least Android 2.3. To get your own Hollywood project onto your Android device, simply compile it as a Hollywood applet (*.hwa) from the Hollywood GUI or Hollywood Designer and then copy it into a directory named "Hollywood" on the SD card of your Android device. Then you can easily run it using the Hollywood Player!

Feature wise the Hollywood Player for Android is pretty identical to the desktop version of Hollywood, plugins and videos are fully supported. Due to security reasons, however, certain functionality like starting external programs is currently disabled. You can find a complete list of differences between the desktop and mobile versions of Hollywood in the release notes in the Hollywood forums. Please note that the Hollywood Player for Android is a WIP snapshot from the current development version of Hollywood 5.1 which has not been released yet and is still a work-in-progress.

Due to the multitude of Android devices and the often scarcely documented native development interface of Android, it can happen that this app does not run on your Android device. If that is the case, please let us know in the Hollywood forums or via email.

This fantastic news - very well done. Our college students will be able to look at our Hollywood-based 'FlipBooks' on their 'phones too now. One question - will it be possible to compile to AROS ARM at some point in the future, as it looks like this format will be gaining a lot of poularity in the near future?

Cheers, and well done again,
Nigel.

It could be nice if the app ships with some sample applets pre-installed, or even better implement a "public library" on the app itself from where to download such sample (or user-submitted?) applets. (preferable the later so that the player app does not grows in size unnecessarily) imho

I've got it on my phone - any suggestions for Hollywood created apps?

I've just compiled some of my apps and run them on my scroll excel tablet
running ICS, and also on a samsung galaxy mobile phone running gingerbread. oxo and memory tester both run great, puzzlers companion runs, but there is no keyboard popping up to enter anything, so cant get it to do anything useful at the moment, need to work out how to get the keyboard to pop up.

The scroll excel originally was a gingerbread device, but it has issue with google play and thinks that the hollywood app is not compatible and refuses to install it, but works fine after flashing to ICS

Update:

After RTFM on the Hollywood forum, I found the command showkeyboard() and hidekeyboard() so now puzzlers companion works, but will need just a feww minor tweaks to the interface to make it more usable, but overall this new android option is great, well done andreas !
