A-EON Technology acquires DvPlayer The premier multimedia player for AmigaOS 4 Cardiff 14th June 2015
A-EON Technology are pleased to announce that, a year after becoming the sole distributor of DvPlayer, we have now secured the exclusive rights from its developer Stephen Fellner.

As part of the agreement A-EON Technology has acquired a world-wide, exclusive, perpetual and irrevocable license to develop, publish and distribute the full Dvplayer source code, binaries and plugins. A-EON has also acquired the DvPlayer web content and exclusive rights to all trade names for product marketing, promotion and branding for the AmigaOS and Amiga-related operating systems including emulat-ion. Meanwhile Stephen Fellner will retain non-exclusive rights to elem-ents of his original source code for potential future projects. The current version of DvPlayer runs under AmigaOS 4.1 and supports the following video formats:-

MPEG-1/2 video streams MPEG-1/2 system streams MPEG audio files VideoCD and SVCD DVD Video AVI files (inc.OpenDML extens.) ASF/WMV files AIFF audio files
DvPlayer also supports many audio and video codecs via avcodec.library, including MPEG Video 1/2, DiVX, XVID, MJPG, Cinepak, Indeo Video, PCM, MPEG Audio (Layer1-3) and more. It uses fast direct-rendering algorithms for every possible HiColor and TrueColor display mode and separate rendering routines for half scale and 16:9 movies so that they are correctly displayed at the correct aspect ratio. DvPlayer uses a new triple buffering technique which is only available in OS4.0+. There are numerous other features including:- keyboards shortcuts, a skinnable GUI, full screen and windowed displays, Amidock support, DVD and VideoCD playback, subtitle support, support for external plugins, a visual audio scope and many, many more.

DvPlayer was developed by Steven, who is himself an Amiga enthusiast, to deliver the ultimate multimedia experience for AmigaOS 4.1. Matthew Leaman, commented on the latest addition to A-EON’s growing software catalogue, “DvPlayer has always been a favourite amongst AmigaOS 4 users and we are pleased to secure it for the future”. To which Stephen Fellner added, “Amiga was the first home computer to deliver a true multimedia experience. My goal with DvPlayer was to continue that legacy. Now it's time to take it to the next level and I'm very happy to have A-EON bring new life to this project.” A beta version of DvPlayer is currently being tested which supports the RadeonHD v2 driver’s hardware accelerated video playback using the graphics card’s own GPU. DvPlayer is available from AMIStore.

It's not specific to some videos, it's the same for every video I watch (and it doesn't happen under 4.1.6). I highly suspect the graphics.library to be the culprit.
Since I have no Radeon HD I cannot test with this kind of configuration. _________________ PowerMac G5 2,7Ghz - 2GB - Radeon 9650 - MorphOS 3.14 AmigaONE X1000, 2GB, Sapphire Radeon HD 7700 FPGA Replay + DB 68060 at 85Mhz

| A-Eon has been acquiring lots of software packages. It makes you wonder. Are they planning to bundle it with a future OS (OS 4.2)? Microsoft showed how well this works. People rebelled about MS sucking the air out of independent software development. Does A-Eon think a single company selling almost all Amiga software is a profitable business model? Other than verging on an evil monopoly, it might work. _________________ X5000 / microA1(OS4.1 FE U2) / CodeBench / Imagine / Blender Lightwave 2019 / Microsoft Visual C++

A-EON buys of software where developers have stopped working on the products. Most projects are great. what they are doing is try to find new developers who can update the software to level that is at users expectations.
PPaint was also dead, no developers, did not work on modern hardware. TuneNet has been dead in water for a long time, DvPlayer was not updated in long time, I did not know that DvPlayer development stopped, my impression and information that came to me indicated that DvPlayer was also going to be updated to RadeonHD standards, something most have happened.
I hope Stephen Fellner is OK.Last edited by NutsAboutAmiga on 16-Jun-2015 at 07:15 PM. Last edited by NutsAboutAmiga on 16-Jun-2015 at 07:14 PM.

I highly suspect the graphics.library to be the culprit.. |
Cybergraphics.library was a wrapper for picasso96.library. Picasso96.library was the graphic library for 32bit graphic, now in AmigaOS4.1 Final picasso96.library has become a wrapper for graphics.library. Everything you do in picasso96 will end up being done in graphics.library.
So it's only logical programs, that using picasso96 or cybergraphics will be slightly slower than programs that only use graphics.library on AmigaOS4.1 Final.
I think if DvPlayer was updated to latest changes I think there be fewer complaints, about AmigaOS4.1 Final, however I do understand, that people with PCI cards don't see the big benefit from the latest changes. how ever if you do not upgrade you will see more and more programs require the newest graphics.library or you get ISI errors. Eventually you will have to upgrade.
Or you stick to older programs, that use the old libraries, and use that on a older version of the OS; Or you can upgrade to newest version of the OS, and try to find programs that have been updated to latest changes.
Meanwhile you are stuck in the middle, Old program != new OS, New program != old OS.
Way developers do things, can be hard to understand from users perspective, the change in AmigaOS4.1 Final, to unify all graphic libraries where done, so there was only one placed that need to be changed instead of 2 or 3.

The changes that enabled DMA, did not help video playback on Picasso96 overlay, as the image has to be re-scaled to the overlay, and transferred from RAM to VRAM, this was done pixel by pixel on the YUV planes. At least in MPlayer, not as chunk of memory you need to have if your going to use DMA, the same is probably true for DvPlayer, as well.
Seeing comments from other Sam440 users, that do not have the issues, you should consider that maybe your using commodities or other applications in background that might, make things worse, you should check wbstartup and user-startup, and make sure, and nothing that takes CPU is running.Last edited by NutsAboutAmiga on 16-Jun-2015 at 10:55 PM.
