Amigaworld.net News   Amigaworld.net News : We're Back
posted by DaveyD on 6-Feb-2005 18:06:24 (7412 reads)
We're back at long last after a severe attack on our server by hackers. The site is now hosted on our new server with greatly improved security and performance. Apologies for the long delay, we wanted to make sure the site was secure and safe before going live again.

Please report any bugs/errors that you never noticed before, also if you know anyone having problems accessing the site tell them to use http://62.193.231.47 until the dns cache has updated on their isp.

Regards
DaveyD

PS Thanks to DaveP and Sibbi for their help

Where do we submit error reports?

Well, I tried to PM DaveyD, but the popup window just sits there blank and loading with a busy pointer. I'm getting, well not getting actually, 3 images on every page that are not loading. Looks to be from the Who's online box, no images loaded there. I just get blank image boxes next to all the items. I clicked on the Guru Meditation ad which brought me to a Amigaworld page with an empty content area.

Hi Argo

The reason for the broken images in the 'whos online' block is because the urls to the images contain our domain name which probably doesnt resolve for you yet, once the domain name resolves the images should appear again, as for the banner ad, it usually opens a blank aw.net page and then redirects to the advertiser's url, I supect that when you click on it your connection to aw.net was slow thus causing a delay to the adveritser's webpage (and the delay when you tried to PM me), or it could be related to the aw.net domain name not resolving. Anyway, thanks for reporting this.

DaveyD

Out of curiosity what kind of web server did you have and what are you using now?

Anyway, glad you got it up and running again.

What was the problem? No need for detailed information, I was just wondering what can cause a website to go down. DOS attacks? Security breaches?

bye

I am glad to AW.net back up.. I really hate it when hackers do this kind of thing.. I hope you take steps to identify who is doing this kind of thing and to expose them and remove them..
