@ zerohero

Note that the Friedens are off to the Belgium show. You may have to wait for Monday for your answer.
I think they count how many downloads are done of the SDK. Giving it away would make this count less significant.

@elwood

It will be pointless just now anyway to count the number of downloads as I (as I assume others have done) have tried to download the SDK at least half a dozen times without success.

Kind regards,

Francis

I get the same error as many here:

Quote:
The proxy server received an invalid response from an upstream server.

Additionally, a 502 Bad Gateway error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

I did not go for it yesterday but instead wait till today but still no luck. I was hoping to go thru some of the stuff tonight but I guess that will not happen. Just when you have a free evening to spare.

Yes, it's dead. Can anybody at Hyperion give it a kick?

They are all at the show I assume. And if it does come back up everyone will have a shot at it and some people still don't get thru. It really sucks when you get a download halt at 99% with dail-up modem. I think in about 2 months I have ADSL (first time in my life) so I will become happier.

@Steff

I will!

Last time I moved they had ADSL there on the day I left. Now we move again and of course since a short period ADSL is also here now. Never before of course. Also they decided to fix the street (actually a new one) in front of our house which is really bad. Of course also on the day we move. Well at least that, and ADSL, is some comfort for when we hang around here during holidays. Of course trucks will have destroyed it again by the time we take a holiday here.

Of course I did not take any risk so we are moving back to the same spot we moved from last time so that I REALLY have ADSL. And not some remote spot that takes another several years to have ADSL. I mean how could it be possible they suddenly removed ADSL from that spot? That could not happen, right?

Should be up and running again now. The server crashed, dunno why.

I have been trying to get in over the last few days, the server has been really slow, so I thought I'd try again to see if the bandwidth surge had settled down. At the moment I am also getting the following error:

Bad Gateway

The proxy server received an invalid response from an upstream server.

Additionally, a 502 Bad Gateway error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Bugger this, if Hyperion can't set up a server with ANY kind of reliability and bandwidth, they don't DESERVE to get any statistics of who downloaded what. Hey, I've been slashdotted once. Hardly noticed it on the server, but the logs (I was even logging with PHP to a postgresql database) showed 8000 unique IP addresses (with large screenshots downloaded by everyone) within hours. And that was before we upgraded to GigE.

This is just silly. I really wanted to try out update 3 before saying OS4 on the SE is useless, but waiting a whole day just to download 10MB is not what makes people happy.
Why the heck hasn't that been uploaded to the "AmigaOne owners" forum here anyway?

So here goes:

OS4 on the SE is useless. Suddenly everything starts clogging, even the mouse pointer moves only three times per second. For some reason it ALWAYS happens if I launch Freespace, but it also SOMETIMES happens when I'm just moving around between directories in a CLI. The latter will clear up after a "few" seconds (10-15) but the former (Freespace) stays forever.

Last time I ever purchase a game for my AmigaOne, that's for frigging sure.

Hrm, now to figure out how to integrate it with GoldEd..

If you have the latest AIX (e.g. I have the latest AIX Developer edition C/C++ only), it integrates with the SDK already. Including the OS4 API highlighting, etc.

I have my SDK in Work:Development/SDK, however GoldEd comes with an older SDK. So what I did I link the devkits:sdk/amigaos/sdk to my SDK: directory.

--snip--
2.Work:Development/devkits> ls -l sdk/amigaos4
total 0
lr-xr-xr-x 1 root wheel 20 2005-08-06 14:30 sdk -> /Work/Development/SDK
drwx------ 2 root wheel 0 2005-06-13 21:03 sdk_51.5
--snip--

You could also change the path in GoldEd directly. Works fine.

Incl. gdb - but this is not integrated in GoldEd, but runs in a shell window (which is OK, but would be nice, if it could completely be integrated into the Editor). The build in console logs the gcc output and jumps to build errors...

I like it.

GoldED's devkits installation separates compilers and SDKs. It gives you the usual SDK: assign (devkits:sdk/amigaos4/...) but the actual compilers are in devkits:compilers/... The SDK: path only contains headers, user files and documentation. This was done because a single compiler installation can access multiple SDKs. For example, vbcc can compile for OS3 and OS4 and picks an SDK depending on command line options. Consequently, you must take care of SDK *and* compiler upgrades and not just link the new SDK folder.

If you use GoldED, I suggest you duplicate what you see and just replace version numbers. For example, if the old SDK was in devkits:sdk/amigaos4/51.5, put the new SDK into devkits:sdk/amigaos4/51.15. I don't know how the new SDK's installation works - haven't seen it - but suspect it will install over the old SDK. If so, let it do that. Rename the folder afterwards, if you care about the name.

Do the same install-to-new-version-folder routine with gcc and vbcc (just move folders to devkits:compilers/... if they were installed into the new SDK tree). Afterwards, update "devkits:devkits.config" with the new compiler paths and update the startup script "devkits:scripts/user-startup" with the new SDK path.

Now remove anything the SDK installation has added to user-startup, such as gcc startup or the SDK assign: this should all be taken care of by the scripts in "devkits:scripts/" (if nothing fundamental has changed since the previous SDK).

Finally, take care of providing vbcc with the latest newlib stuff. The devkits installation is designed to have it in vbcc:newlib. So copy (not move ;) gcc's newlib folder, which should be in gcc:ppc-amigaos/.

In GoldED itself, nothing needs to be changed. Theoretically, you could install multiple variants of the OS4 SDK and access them in GoldED as "latest" compiler and as "stable" compiler but I don't want to make it too confusing.

Makes sence. However, if you have your sdk: in your search path first, also GoldEd will use the sdk: gcc first. Don't know if this also applies for make, though (which is not that necessary).

(BTW: Dietmar, how can I make gcc/OS4 the default compiler ? I always get vbcc first...I know I could RTFM:).

Interesting. Shouldn't happen :) Theoretically, it works like this: If you select a compiler in the menu of the editor, it will run the off-script for the current compiler (remove its assign and unload stuff) and then run the activation for the selected compiler, ie. assign gcc: to the home path recorded in "devkits:devkits.config" - which would be the old gcc - and execute the compiler's on-script. Does your trick work with vbcc, too? It has far more setup dependencies than a simple assign (paths to things).

Select gcc in the menu or toolbar of the C/C++ mode (to move gcc to the top of the filetype list) and save the settings.

OS4 works just fine on my SE. Really.

Well still nothing but it does not matter since I don't have time anymore.

Yep. From the pre-release on it always worked just fine for me. Sure I have some crashes sometimes. I do not play games but mostly compile code. I do have times when after compiling code for the 5th time the machine just hangs. But it is still beta so having a crash sometimes falls under "normal" I guess. It works fine for what I use it for so I am happy enough.

I think you have an earlier version of the SE, right?

@Coder

Well, what revision Articia and which Via82c686 (A or B) do you have? I don't think there's THAT much difference between our boards. I had to do the ethernet irq#/gnt# swap myself, but ethernet "kinda" works, so it shouldn't be that

(it'll work, albeit really slow, for a few minutes, then completely hang until I do a netshutdown and a reconnect. This is on a LAN, btw). The thing where something is using so much CPU or something else so the mouse pointer only moves three times per second is so annoying it's unbearable. I don't want to wait 15 seconds to see the next tab-completion-suggestion from the shell. No way.

It's a bit odd that noone else see these kind of problems, though. Moving windows is blindingly fast, drawing a simple intuition window can take half a minute. It just doesn't make sense.

Hi!

First of all, I'm sorry for the problems we have with the server. We have found out in the meantime where the problem lies - the CMS loads a file completely into memory before it sends it over the network, so the result is that a few parallel downloads will kill the CMS. It's not a bandwidth issue, as I can easily get into the site by other means.

We've returned from Belgium already yesterday night (sadly) so we will try to sort things out today. The site is currently down again, and will stay so for a couple of hours until we have fixed/replaced parts of the CMS scripting.

Also, some might already have notived (and Entil'Zha already posted about it) that the specs file of gcc was damanged. We'll upload a new version of the SDK today, plus a hotfix for those that have downloaded the previous broken version. We apologize for the invonvenience, it was caused by the hurry to bring this SDK out before the show in Belgium.

I'll post again when we have solved the problems.
