Software News   Software News : Quake 3 ported to AmigaOS 4.0
   posted by spotUP on 6-Jul-2006 14:52:10 (18878 reads)
This is a quick and dirty port of Quake 3 for OS4. To play, you need the latest
version of the Quake 3 data files (retial version plus all patches). You also
need the latest MiniGL.library (included in this archive, copy to libs:).

The port uses the QVM jit, so it can also run all the mods (tested with Urban
Terror).

Source code is available on OS4depot.net too. The port is unpotimized, so don't
expect it to be blazing fast.

If you want to contact me, write a mail to thomasf()hyperion-entertainment.biz

DISCLAIMER: This software is provided as-is, with no guarantee for usability.

Also note: This port has NOTHING to do with Hyperion Entertainment, it's a spare
time project of me. DO NOT write to Hyperion Entertainment regarding support.

Thanks Hyperion for this port.

See README. This isn't anything Hyperion related.

Sorry if I stress this, but I don't want Hyperion to receive support queries... this isn't supported by them.

@EntilZha

I seem to be a little lost here. Maybe I'm just not understanding how to get this running.

I have a full version here with all the data files & the directory looks like this:
Quote:
7.Workbench:> list Empty:Quake3/
Directory "Empty:Quake3" on Friday 07-Jul-06
.q3a Dir ----rwed Today 00:43:43
q3 83 -s--rw-d Yesterday 20:59:39

baseq3 Dir ----rwed Yesterday 18:53:17

7.Workbench:>
7.Workbench:> list Empty:Quake3/baseq3/

q3config.cfg 38 ---arwed 24-Nov-99 09:49:08

When I "run q3", I get a grey screen & a lock up. I have tried running a Warp type program as I have a Radeon (The Matrix Blanker for example) but still get the lock up.

I don't understand the "all patches" part. With Quake 1, you have the Amiga executable & the PC data files. If ever there was an update or patch, it was to the Amiga executable.

How does this work with Quake 3? Any patches I find on the net are for Windows, MacOS or Linux.

Thanks, FuZion.

@ FuZion

You'll have to patch the files on a Windows setup.
Then copy the files to Amiga.

@Samwel

So it's the actual data files that get patched this time round. That's a pain innit. Ah well.

FuZion.

The current Quake 3 version is 1.32 and this version works here correctly.
You can get it here: http://www.softwarepatch.com/games/quake3.html

@EntilZha

Thanks for doing and releasing this port, let's hope somebody will pick up the sources and make improvements/optimizations.

You need to get one of these patches (for example, the Linux version). These will contain file pak2.pak up to pak8.pak (I think it was pak8, maybe only pak7). These have to go into the baseq3 directory.

Yeah, uploaded one, and it was too big... since I don't usually visit this site anymore, I didn't bother uploading a new one.

People with no Windows can still download MorphOS version of Quake3, which contains an Amiga-style script, which downloads the patchset, then patches the thing. I think it would be quite easy to modify that for OS4 version. (Never tried though.) Note that you still need full version of Q3 for this of course.

Do you have an easier way? I don't have a Windows machine at home, and was hoping to solve this file patching thingy some other way.

Also there was one from Entilzha that talked about getting the Linux version patch, which should be pretty easy to unpack and get the necessary files.
