software OS4   software OS4 : Cinemaware® is Back on AmigaOS!
posted by AlexC on 29-Jan-2013 4:44:53 (11476 reads)
Cinemaware in cooperation with Hyperion Entertainment are proud to announce the re-distribution of its classic Amiga 68K Cinemaware titles. Through the magic of emulation and genuine Amiga ROMs, you can once again play titles such as Defender of the Crown® on PowerPC-based AmigaOS systems with a simple double click of the mouse. Everything you need to run these classic Cinemaware games is already included in AmigaOS 4.1. There is even an option for using an original joystick via the Catweasel joystick driver for a truly nostalgic experience.

Click READ MORE for additional info:

All registered AmigaOS owners now have access to these Cinemaware games at www.hyperion-entertainment.biz in the downloads section. Customers can simply choose the games they are interested in and click download. Manuals are also included for a majority of the games.

AmigaOS has evolved from its humble beginnings on those original 68k systems and so has Cinemaware. Cinemaware not only has a brand new web site at www.cinemware.com, but Cinemaware titles are also available for iOS such as Defender of the Crown® and the upcoming The King of Chicago™. You can expect many more classic Cinemaware titles to be available on a portable device near you soon! Also keep an eye out for Cinemaware Kickstarter projects which will reboot your favorite titles with HD graphics and new gameplay content!

Hyperion Entertainment is offering these games as a free bonus for all its AmigaOS customers, and is distributing these games with the full cooperation of Cinemaware. Issues may be posted at support.amigaos.net where we will do our best to help you.

They would be back if they procuced something new for AmigaOS. It is a nice move but if they could even make a director's cut or remake for an old title (TVS Basketball comes first to mind) I would buy it the next day. OK, make that the same day. @#$@ it, where do I preorder ?

I wonder if the games are still the cracked copies.

Cinemaware wanted originals as much as possible with little or no graffiti.

I do not think that they will produce new versions for AmigaOS with number of users only in the hundreds. So the title is a little too euphoric in my view and is creating wrong expectations.

It does not mean any sort of "cooperation" or that Cinemaware will support AmigaOS as a major target platform now.

That would be where you are wrong. Nothing is off the table at this point.

Considering your position within the community, I think you should reconsider how such statements could negatively reflect on your preferred platform of choice. Picking on the other guys news items to death is certainly not reflecting well I expect.

Ah ok. Then you can surprise us in the future. I only looked at it from a business point of view where game developers answered me that even a userbase of 10.000 users is too small for them.

Your opinion regarding the "inaccuracy" has been noted. However, I don't feel the need to make any correction at this time. Thank you.

Sorry that I expressed my view. I tried to create some interest by indy game developers and got clear answers. For them even all amiga-users left would be too small. I also corresponded in the phase of the kickstart with one from cinemaware and the answers from him were also clear. That situation is the same for all camps right now (including my "favorite choice")

Fair enough. Putting "inaccuracy" in quotes implies the press release actually is accurate, which would obviously mean that it *is* available to *all* registered AmigaOS owners.

Several other posts on this thread suggest otherwise.

Can the whining be taken to a forum thread for discussion, and can this news item be tidied up before some one reads and concludes that we're all a bunch of moaning kids?

You mean you haven't yet updated your X1000 with the various updates issued at the registered users' download site?

Do note that you will need to do that, and especially apply update 6 with the AmiUpdate integration and download and install all updates it will offer you, before you are able to use these games.

Also make sure you run AmiUpdate again after each update you install, to make sure it offers no new updates. Some of them have dependencies on each other, so won't be offered until the predecessor is installed, and you have rebooted.

To say I've been busy with other things is an understatement. My poor X1000 is gathering dusts along with the rest of my computers because I've been tied up with work and family matters. I still have a PCIe-PCI adapter and a Catweasel card sat ontop of the case that need to be fitted.

Hopefully next week I'll catch up.

Ssolie was kind enough to email me the link to register. I hope I can still find it.

Tempting as it is, most people reply to a thread by clicking on thelink above, so if I start deleting posts then I risk deleting "good" replies.

To all posters:

Please just stick to the title. Cinemaware has provided Hyperion with some nicely bundled files for including with OS4.1. Yes, ADFs were available before, but not all of these files.

I didn't expect this to turn into the Spanish Inquisition...

Does all of the above games open in a standard screenmode or is there a option to pick own screenmode?

@delshay
If you are talking about playing these games on AmigaOS4 (with RunInUAE installed), then it depends on which machine you are using:

* For any machine with a Radeon *HD* card, it will automatically use 640x480 (which is certainly "a standard screenmode").

* For other (typically older) machines, it will use 320x256 (for better performance), but if you monitor cannot handle that, then you can tell it to use 640x480 using RunInUAE's menu "Shared settings > Set default screen size to > 640 x 480".

* You also have the option of playing them in a window, rather than full-screen, using "Shared settings > Set default screen size to > window", although I do not advise this for any mouse-controlled games.
