Software News   Software News : 20th Anniversary Bonus Pack for AmigaOS 4.0 released
   posted by AmigaPapst on 22-Jul-2005 13:58:21 (17054 reads)
Leuven, Belgium - 22. July 2005

To commemorate the upcoming 20th anniversary of the launch of the Amiga platform on July 23rd, Hyperion Entertainment is pleased to provide registered AmigaOS 4.0 users with a special treat in the form of a much improved version of Intuition and several "themes".

This new version of Intuition unlocks functionality which demonstrates the very high degree of customisation of the user-interface which is now possible under AmigaOS 4.0.

Here are some screenshots of the themes in action:

The "Default" theme (for reference).
The "Atez" theme.
The "ZAmi" theme.
The "Classic" theme.
The "MT" theme.

You can find the download
here. Enjoy!

I cannot select a background with Atez

Atez defines a blank screen background by default. To use a different background you need to switch to the Atez theme and then change the background with prefs/wbpattern. If you switch to another theme, or load Atez again, the background will be reset back to blank again.

If you want to be switching themes a lot, but also want to use your own supply of background images, then what you can do is switch to Atez theme, load wbpattern, change background as required, and then use "save as..." (menu) to save the background preference over the top of the Atez theme.

The file you need to replace is 'sys:prefs/presets/atez/prefs/wbpattern.prefs'.

Note that this will be a perminant change to the theme itself, so you'll need to reinstall the theme if you want to get it back to as original. Also note that such changes to OS themes could be overwritten by future updates.

Really really a good job Mason!

Your new set is smooth and sharp at the same time.
Really looking forward to the official complete set.

You guys working at the new graphic style of the OS4 are planning something like:
http://developer.apple.com/documentation/UserExperience/Conceptual/OSXHIGuidelines/XHIGIcons/chapter_14_section_1.html
?

Also a tiny style guide for the icons style will be welcomed!

Excellent! Thanks!

Two (minor) things:
_ On the Zami theme, there is a light blue line juste below the window title bar. Is is an error? I find t disturbing...
_ Mason, your new icons look really cool, great job! BUT, i find the drawers to be a little to bright and "toy-ish", if it's possible i'd like something darker

Nice work!

I remember the MT theme been shown in one of the first screenshots of OS4, made by the OS4 GUI style's author Massimo Tantiglione... in fact, I guess that MT stands for his name's initials.

I've got one question though... The Atez theme has those funky window title bars that resize, how do i put it... Only as far as need be. It's cool (very cool, thumbs up to the guy who came up with that one) but i can't find the switch, setting, whatever for it in GUI prefs. Anyone know how? One more thing, can the dynamicly resizing titlebar be set up on the right side as well as the left?

I had a look at the 'Classic' theme, and now it doesn't matter which other theme I choose, I still have the Mouse pointer and busy icon from the classic theme. How do I reset this?

Looks cool

I like the atez theme; but i think that the Zami theme must be the default theme, is so beautiful.
And, of course, the classic theme is a must have

Great job hyperion!!!!

You can find the option in the configuration file that accompanies that theme in the bitmaps drawer.

The reason the classic theme mouse pointer image remains even when you switch to a different theme is because none of the other themes specify a particular pointer style. In other words the mouse pointer remains the same as it was previously -- in this case the classic one.

To change/reset the mouse, go to prefs/pointer tool and from the menu choose "reset to defaults", then use or save.

@mattk

Thanks for that. I like the old zzzz waiting icon, but not the old thick pointer.

@OS4 Developers

GREEEEEEEAT WORK!!!.......THANKS ALOT!

@Fransexy

I also think the Zami theme is better than the default one. But it should be with the scroll arrows from the default theme, and not the Zami ones. And I like the blue gradients in titlebars better from the default theme. The ones from zami is too much blue'ish, and with too little colors.

The background on the default theme is in my oppinion too toy'ish, and would be better replaced with something more sharp and distinctive. Perhaps some kinda background with a transparent boingball or official os4 logo somewhere.

We need distinctive recognition on the workbench more than ever
