| I just want smooth video playback as other AmigaOne users have been enjoying for years.
@sicky
No, we've been overlooked. Requesting AmigaKit/A-Eon take a better look at the current situation. Last edited by djrikki on 24-Jun-2012 at 02:18 PM.

The fact is that the Radeon HD 2D driver IS NOT part of OS 4.1 . It is available to SAM460ex and X1000 users by Special arrangements between ACube and Hans and A-Eon and Hans. For Free Sam460ex updates ACube would probably have to make new arrangements with A-Eon and Hans.
Think of Dvplayer .There is a working version included with OS 4.1 but for addition features you have to pay the Author . _________________ Sam460ex : Radeon Rx550 Single slot Video Card : SIL3112 SATA card

They will be able to purchase RadeonHD driver updates via the A-EON Technology website for their Sam460 and AmigaOne 500 systems. |

| What it boils down to is that if 460ex customers want an up to date driver for the card included in their machines then they have to pay - this is an unfortunate situation for Acube.
Perhaps it might be better for them to offer a different, supported card with the machines or license the driver. _________________ Fraggle

| As a Sam460 owner, I think every Sam460 owner should upgrade to new RadeonHD driver and should support the development.
So that ACube can invest their money in other areas that requires updating like PCI-E 1x SATA cards or etc. Last edited by SinanG on 24-Jun-2012 at 02:36 PM.

| The price that the end-user pays for the driver is not a lot of money and has been subsidised to keep the price artificially low. The development costs are very significant and it will take years for A-EON to fully recuperate the costs. Perhaps we should focus on the fact that AmigaOS has gained a significant step forward in graphics capability. To put in perspective, other non-x86 Operating Systems do not have all these drivers. | Will the price of AmigaOS 4.x drop since GFX drivers are now developed by a third party? _________________ Common sense - So rare it's almost like a super power

Apologies if I missed something before, but are those drivers only 2D or 3D too? _________________

No doubt, but its still a punch in the face to SAM owners who sank their money into the Radeon 4650 under the belief that they would receive a working graphics driver that would put us en par with existing AmigaOne users - and this includes video playback.
( not a single number on the lottery :( ) Last edited by djrikki on 24-Jun-2012 at 02:52 PM.

28GBP doesn't need a lottery.. Think like this is a donation to Hans / A-EON.
I'd prefer to pay for drivers for SATA, sound cards e.t.c.. otherwise we will be waiting for ever hoping that someone will port a open-source driver. _________________ AmigaOS4 Beta-Tester ---------------------------------- Amiga X5000 8GB Radeon RX 560 Amiga A1222 2GB Radeon RX 550 Sam 460 2GB RadeonRX 550

You're joking, right? Surely you know that each a/v file places it's own unique stress on the system based on many factors.

It is possible that version 1.x of the driver will be included free with OS4.2 . _________________ Sam460ex : Radeon Rx550 Single slot Video Card : SIL3112 SATA card

| It bothers me slightly that there is now little incentive for Hyperion to produce their own drivers and as the world will run out of R300s soon it means that this driver will become a defacto OS component, increasing the effective price of OS4 by £28.
I do think that £28 is a lot of money for a driver and if that is the cost MINUS a subsidy then the developer is asking too much yes.

We have the option of waiting for OS4.2 and hoping that the included drivers will support video cards beyond the Radeon HD 4000 series or paying some extra and enjoying the more recent graphics cards NOW. I am glad that Trevor was able to push Hans past the HD 4000 series. Good work both of you and AmigaKit. Sometimes that extra push is what we need. _________________ Sam460ex : Radeon Rx550 Single slot Video Card : SIL3112 SATA card

Exactly. OS4 has now 2D drivers even for Radeon HD 6970. That is time for celebration, not for arguing about price.
However, another free upgrades of current R700 driver for SAM460 users would be nice, eg. overlay (when available in the main driver). |

| I think A-Eon and ACube should have made a deal about this, and show a little more unity. Situation is that some AmigaOne buyers will get a driver other AmigaOne buyers have to pay for, which is not so common. But that's just my humble opinion, of course. |
