Sure I viewed the comment before it got moderated. It was not trolling it was frustration over that the most used Amiga-browser wasn't supported properly. |

True. I was just guessing. People described problem that could fit "browser get confused about file size" description. _________________ OpenWindows Initiative. Port PS3 hardware to bananas. For free. Join today and receive expired $50 cupon from AI!

| Thanks for the update OS4 team, downloaded and installed without a hitch.
Although I did not see the content of the offending post it seems it has stirred up quite a reaction. I personaly have had no problems with this or any past update as far as downloading and installing are concerned and any other little niggles have been quickly resolved. It does sadden me to think someone can have a go at the OS4 team because the are having a problem with an old and out of date third party application of which the the team has no responsibility for. Is this really what owning an Amiga is coming to, I really do hope not. |

| @Hyperion & Rogue Thanks for this fine update. I look forward to check out the Timberwolf. Keep up the good work.
@all About OWB and the downloading of files, I always use the fine Charon. You can all still try this out and register it. It works like a charm. _________________ Amiga-Look.org - Beautify your Workbench

| I don't own 4.1, so I'm not sure, but does this mean you can't even use excellent software like wget for HTTP downloading? You get no URL? |

Many thanks for this unexpected update. It installed OK and I am using it to post this message.
I noted that you have included a Python based installer (I assume that it was your doing because you are Mr. Amiga-Python-dude). I had a hunt around in case you had added an Amiga windows module, but there is nothing obvious.
Have you any plans to add such a thing so that we can add an Amiga GUI to our Python stuff?
Mind you, if it's a choice between UD3 and a Python GUI then my vote is for UG3. No, forget that. My vote is for an OS4.1 version for the X1000.

Granted you said to not use IBrowse, but saying you didn't receive any complaints isn't completely true, IMO. |
As I said, I read it on a forum. I didn't receive complains in E-Mail. Complaining on a forum is like throwing a dart at a map and hoping you hit the right spot. _________________ Seriously, if you want to contact me do not bother sending me a PM here. Write me a mail

Not right now. The Installer has some stuff for making GUI's, but that's only in the context of installers, really. _________________ Seriously, if you want to contact me do not bother sending me a PM here. Write me a mail

Truth be told, I haven't had any problem with browsers. I tried a lot of them (Firefox, OWB, Chrome, IE, Safari) and they all downloaded the files alright, I am really not quite sure what the issue was, but I am guess it wasn't a web-site problem. _________________ Seriously, if you want to contact me do not bother sending me a PM here. This is partly why me, kas1e & others wanted an official place to send OS4 bug reports! Be it an email address, a web form, or whatever.
However, we have since been told that this forum is the official place to post bug reports, which is at least better than no official place at all.Last edited by ChrisH on 01-May-2010 at 11:07 AM.

Thank you guys or all you have done, and please feel free to continue doing so,
As for people complaining, we all get complaints, that seems to be ther way of modern amiga world, annoying yes, rather then people simply beinggrateful that our community is starting to flourish again, and that more private users are starting to get the creative bug again, to give to the community.
Again
Thank you for the update, and thank you for hanging around when many gave up, you guys stayed for the long haul.

Dont know what billiE's problem was but er,
If he doesnt like OWB, he can always use Netsurf 2.5 to download the new update 2.
hehehe, just tested it for fun, and its working, with a download progress meter, awesome.
OK, yes, I am using OWB to submit this, but I admit, Netsurf I have recently been using for download purposes, as I like seeing progress bar, so its official, the newspaper browser IBrowse can go elsewhere, in the collectibles.
hehehehehe
OK, thanks again guys. Hardly wait to install it.
P.S. YES, I will backup my BlitterWolf work this time, despite this time round there ebing no need to partition my current Amiga OS. _________________ Courtesy of SAM440Flex & Amiga OS4.1 only Flex is 800mhz A1000 with Classic 520 Amiga OS3.2.1 AmiKit 12 MorphOS PowerBook G4 (which can play youtube vids)

I wonder why you people trash IBrowse like that... It's light years ahead of OS4 OWB or Netsurf user interfaces, so it really doesn't deserve this kind of silly comments. Last edited by Fab on 01-May-2010 at 12:37 PM.

| @ Fab,
take it easy dude,
I wasnt trashing IBrowse, I was stating facts of how it lays out a webapge that uses css, etc.
If you dont like reality, then dont bother assuming people are trashing it.
So when I use firefox or any other browser on my Linux system at home(yes Amiga OS I mostly use, in conjunction with my x86 box, why, well, I didnt want to chuck a perfectly working hardware, so I installed Linux ultimate edition on it), it is only logical for me to compare to my Amiga platform browsers, and I must say OWB is way better to use then any other browser currently for the platform.
Id rather have functionality and a correctly displayed webpage versus more buttons, but thats just me. _________________ Courtesy of SAM440Flex & Amiga OS4.1 only Flex is 800mhz A1000 with Classic 520 Amiga OS3.2.1 AmiKit 12 MorphOS PowerBook G4 (which can play youtube vids)

There already are Python bindings for the best Amiga GUI toolkit: PyMUI
Not sure if there's AROS / AmigaOS4 version yet, but there definitely should be. Wouldn't hurt to have some cross platform compatibility for graphical python scripts aswell, don't you agree? |

To be fair, the problem is not with iBrowse, but rather with the website.
The website, which is under the OS4 team's control (and out of the users') had a little custom code added which would prepend a warning along the lines of "iBrowse is old and unsupported. Use something from this century" at the top of webpages, due to issues caused by people trying to use iBrowse to register.
Alas, whoever coded that little warning failed to restrict the warning to webpages; As a result of which, someone using iBrowse to download the lha archive for Update1 would get a the lha file with the warning prepended --- which unarc (rightly so) considers not a valid lha archive. Of course, all the user sees is that their file, downloaded directly from the vendor's website, fails to uncompress. Which can be rather frustrating, especially when the file is big, and the connection is slow. Nobody knew *why* at first.
Annoying, yes, but #### happens; What had gone wrong got eventually worked out, some workarounds were come up with, and the root cause of the problem was determined, in forum threads which had the Hyperion webmaster in attendance. Which does give Bill some justifiable reason to feel aggrieved when months later, the very same problem hits him while downloading the next update.
The expectation that the webmaster would have fixed this unintentional corruption of downloaded files caused by the warning message is not unreasonable; iBrowse is not at fault, its file download works just fine --- however, the file the web server provides to iBrowse downloaders is different to that it provides to users of other browsers, and is corrupted. Last time, it was "Never expected *that* to happen. Whoops!", which I am sure everyone can sympathise with. This time, that doesn't work anymore. |

| Hmm the Kickstart Loader show still "Booting AmigaOS4.1 Update1" after Updating and cold reboot!?!
Issue with first eaten key-input is still there. Last edited by fingus on 01-May-2010 at 03:00 PM.
