software OS4   software OS4 : Cinemaware® is Back on AmigaOS!
posted by AlexC on 29-Jan-2013 4:44:53 (11475 reads)
Cinemaware in cooperation with Hyperion Entertainment are proud to announce the re-distribution of its classic Amiga 68K Cinemaware titles. Through the magic of emulation and genuine Amiga ROMs, you can once again play titles such as Defender of the Crown® on PowerPC-based AmigaOS systems with a simple double click of the mouse. Everything you need to run these classic Cinemaware games is already included in AmigaOS 4.1. There is even an option for using an original joystick via the Catweasel joystick driver for a truly nostalgic experience.

Click READ MORE for additional info:

All registered AmigaOS owners now have access to these Cinemaware games at www.hyperion-entertainment.biz in the downloads section. Customers can simply choose the games they are interested in and click download. Manuals are also included for a majority of the games.

AmigaOS has evolved from its humble beginnings on those original 68k systems and so has Cinemaware. Cinemaware not only has a brand new web site at www.cinemware.com, but Cinemaware titles are also available for iOS such as Defender of the Crown® and the upcoming The King of Chicago™. You can expect many more classic Cinemaware titles to be available on a portable device near you soon! Also keep an eye out for Cinemaware Kickstarter projects which will reboot your favorite titles with HD graphics and new gameplay content!

Hyperion Entertainment is offering these games as a free bonus for all its AmigaOS customers, and is distributing these games with the full cooperation of Cinemaware. Issues may be posted at support.amigaos.net where we will do our best to help you.

Also, as i said in post #61, i believe you can't get all of the games from CW's site.

Yes, it's sooooooo hard to get the missing games...

Thank God that in this universe there are still smart people like you who can tell us about pirated games or ebay, 'cause nobody knew it before!

@those obsessed with making this into bad news somehow
We never claimed you could not get the games from anywhere else. Where do you think we got the WHDLoad versions of the games in the first place? Where do you think we are going to get the ADF versions of the games? D'uh...

Give it rest already... gawd.

Strewth guys, stop bickering.

Yes, you can download the plain ADFs for free from the Cinemaware site as demonstrated in the link provided in this news item, but you can't download the OS4.1 games packages (which include additional files) from there.

Don't make me unleash the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch!

The thing is, I'm not much of a games player, but during beta testing of this games release I have enjoyed how everything was set up to work as simple as possible. Even I could manage to start RunInUAE from its AmiDock icon, open a game drawer and double-click the icon. And that whole setup is what needs the latest updates to work (identifying and having those released beforehand was part of what the beta testing helped ensure in the first place ).

I am not not much of a game player either so I never installed some of those extras on the CD like RuninUAE. Is there anything else besides RuninUAE that I need to install?

It's not in the extras on the CD, the latest updates should've installed everything you need (if you are updated up to upd6)... just check if you have SYS:emulation drawer. Then, if you didn't do it recently, let AmiUpdate do its job 'cause there were a couple of emulation related updates during the last week or so.

Please try to follow the discussion! Regarding the game downloads from Hyperion's site, Nibunnoichi said "you don't get the ADF only". To which I replied "There are *no* games for download as ADF disk images".

From this you were supposed to conclude that Hyperion are not (currently) offering any ADFs for download, but rather they are in a different format.

Let me quote eliyahu's post on www.Amigans.net: Quote:
really enjoying these right now. i was expecting just some ADF files to download; and i was wrong. these are very nicely packaged games which launch with an icon and include manuals, and even some have reference cards to print out. i feel like it's the late 1980s all over again.

@Moxee
As long as you have Update 6, all you need to do is install RunInUAE to be able to play the Cinemaware games.

What I find most sad is that there is still the occasional person with NO interest in using OS4 who insist on posting negative stuff on OS4 news items. I mean why? What do they hope to achieve? (In reality all it does is make their own favoured platforms look desperate.)

How is posting that these great games are avaible for all amigans negative towards os4> Methinks you need to stop being so precious and be more inclusive. I'm sorry if it punctures your sweet but illusionary feeling of exclusivity.

congrats on getting the manuals and reference cards for these games in one place tho. good historical repository.

Hyperion made a good move: Cinemaware games are iconic to the Amiga and it's good they can now be re-discovered and palyed again through emulators. It's a good news for AmigaOS 4 users but, please, let your feet stay connected to the ground.

They achieved the ability to repackage some ADF files with the PDF scans of the original manuals, and place everything with a "ready to run" configuration file for E-UAE: good but not the most difficult task to do. It worths a "thank you" from the community but... well... not dozens of pages of discussion, nor a flame.

I entered this topic just when someone pointed out that ADF files weren't available for download (maybe I wrongly assumed he was refering to Cinemaware's website, not Hyperion one, but reality is that those games have been mostly available for years to everyone), which is misleading and plain wrong.

BTW, Olafs3 and Amikit have been collecting valuable productivity programs to run in their respective collections/distributions, they are available for free and often with whole documentation. And they're not the only ones making similar efforts.

Yes, I have Update 6 and the emulation directory.

Yes, I saw those updates, but I did not install those emulation updates because I thought that I had no need for them since I did not install RunInUAE. Now, I find that RunInUAE is indeed installed. From where I don't know since I thought I had chose not to install it. Am I losing my mind?

OK, I just now let AmiUpdate install those emulation updates. I must be set to go then.

Thanks! Somehow RunInUAE managed to get installed on my X1000. I thought I had rejected it.
