Leuven, Belgium. - December 25, 2003

Hyperion Entertainment and Metropolis Software have extended their existing license agreement for "Gorky 17", Metropolis´ critically acclaimed RPG/Strategy title, to cover not only Linux but also the upcoming AmigaOS 4.

Gorky 17 is a horror conspiracy game mixing elements of strategy and RPG gameplay. The player commands a small group of NATO soldiers who must reveal the mystery behind the sudden appearance of hybrid creatures in a small Polish city named Lubin. The city is being terrorized, the area is surrounded by NATO troops and media from all over the world, and the first group sent into the city disappears without a trace. The main hero of the story is the 40-year old soldier Cole Sullivan, a commando team member with extensive scientific knowledge. His team´s task: to explain the hybrids´ presence and to find the missing members of Group One. But that, of course, is just the beginning...

The AmigaOS 4.0 port is already well under way as can be seen on the screenshots on Hyperion Entertainment's website.

The Amiga and Linux ports are being carried out by Steven Fuller and Joe Tennies who are recent "converts" to the Amiga platform after they recently joined the Hyperion Entertainment game development team.

Steven Fuller and Joe Tennies have an impressive track-record in the field of Linux (gaming) related development.

That is nevertheless a very good message!
Glad Christmas, Hyperion.

Do I need a G3 for the play?
Or will it be playable still on my 604e233MHz?

I loved SpaceCrusade when I was younger, it was great board like game and I loved to play it on A500 many hours after school with my friends. Gorky17 looks like it will be pretty similar to SC, right?

If yes, then I love that kind of games.

Excellent Job Hyperion!

p.s. have you seen Call of Duty game? Truly Brilliant 3D war action!!!

dj.

Yes, Gorky 17 is quite similar. It's played on two "levels", an exploration level when you move around and try to find clues about what is going on, and a "combat" level when you encounter creatures. In combat mode, the game uses a point system for movement/actions (e.g. moving takes one point, firing a gun takes x points etc).

Yeah, played the demos. Absolutely stunning game, extremely dense atmosphere. At some points it was really scary

(BTW, I absolutely love your OS 4 backdrops )

I haven't actually seen the Amiga port yet, so I can't say for sure. We'll publish system specs later.

Well, we definately need cool games to revive the platform.

Now if we can get that Amizilla port, we'll be in good shape.

(btw, does it *have* to be called "Amizilla?" I'm all for identifying with the platform and all, but since the platform is small and fast... how about "Raptor?" Kinda keeps with the spirit of "Mozilla" you know... small and fast.. etc..

what do you guys think?)

I'd love to have something like Unreal Tournament (1999 version) or Counter-Strike ported to AmigaOS 4!

Good news.

Hopefully it will be optimized enough to run well on all AOS4 capable HWs.

What next... a news item about Realsoft3d being finalised for AOS4 ...???

UPDATE from amiga.org thread:
"HyperionMP
...
SOF and SIN can't even run on the Cyberstorm and Blizzard hardware although the SIN port is finished.

Worms is on hold pending release of OS 4 as is Midnight racing.

Realsoft is still being worked on and will be available after OS 4 is released."

Counter-strike would be a dream come true. And should run relatively well on a radeon 7500 (or 7000, if you bump your screen resolution down a bit). The Geforce 4 MX 440 (a Geforce 2, really) in my current x86 box runs it just fine.

Wow. I just took a look at the crapfest over the announcement over at Aorg. Reminds me why I come here now instead.

@ Legion

Counter-Strike is only a Half-life Mod... like other games much more adanced in engine, story and gameplay like Day Of Defeat and Natural Selection.

Simply Valve will not gave the permission to port Half-Life to Amy.... at least soon.

WOW! Waiting for SIN, Worms Armageddon, Midnight racing!
