Thanks for the details! Though they weren't as gory as I had feared, I actually found them quite reassuring.
(I know the neurotic in me won't have me waking up screaming in the middle of the night anymore, anyway.. )

2004 - year of the Amiga? Groovy! Bring it on, I say!

It's good to see that Amiga Inc. has a sound strategy and will hopefully bring the Amiga to the mainstream of computing to where compatibility and viability go hand in hand.

OS4 will be the start of a new revolution, at least where the Amigans are concerned. Things can only get better me hopes.

Which are the 8 modes of FastFileSystem2?

And in case of the 2 data recovery functions, if I understood correctly, salvage must be used first and then repair to get the most of PW?

I've always wondered... Why PocketPC?

Palm pilots are the majority. I know 1 person that has an Ipaq and more than a dozen that have a Palm (or Handspring or Clie).

Well, that's encouraging. I hope it all goes well. People are wanting new products.... now if we can just get them to put a rush on DE for OS4.

Powerfull, supported by Tao and relatively cheap.

I know 3 persons that have bought Ipaqs lately and none that have bought Palms. Dunno how much a palm is these days, but the Ipaq are quite cheap now.

I absolutely agree with this bit:

palms are both cheaper and more powerful than the corresponding iPAQ models.

the best selling Handheld now is the Tungsten T3 which easily beats the best of the iPAQ's at half the price.

there are some cheap PocketPC models but there is
a reason they are cheap (read DELL viewsonic etc.)

Yes they are slightly cheaper, I can see that now..

I guess Amiga just choose whatever Tao supported and Palm wasn't supported back before Tungsten was released.
The old Palms (although nice) was to limited for games software in a decent quality.

I think that Fleecy seemed much more focused and based in 'reality' (as some have criticised him of) than he has previously.

Has the near-completion of OS4 focused everyone's minds? Is there some light at the end of the the tunnel at AInc?

Hope so.

@emeck...

The "8 modes" of FFS2 are the eight versions of the DOS string in the filesystem name (eg "DOS\03":

FastFileSystem:
Plain 01
International 03
Directory cache 05
Long filenames 07

OldFileSystem:
Plain 00
International 02
Directory cache 04
Long filenames 06

Well, that depends what you mean with "powerful" and "corresponding".

If I recall correctly, PocketPC processors have to be faster than the processors in a Palm to be as responsive. WindowsCE is just so sluggish, and needs a fast processor, that the AmigaDE wouldn't seem slow on a PocketPC device.
At least that was the argument I heard/read from one of the Amiga guys.

well compare a Tungsten T3 (with a 400 MHz XScale processor running ARM apps) with a iPAQ (with a 400 MHz XScale processor running a PocketPC app)

which do you think is the faster...

the Tungsten T3 is (roughly) 300 Euros... the comparable iPAQ is (roughly)450 Euros... which is cheaper (there are cheaper PPC's with the same processor but they are cheaper for a reason)?

add to this that the Tungsten Screen is so much better than the iPAQ's in any way you count... resolution, sharpness etc. (PPC=320x240, Palm = 320x480)

I can attest too that there is no comparison between Palm based and PocketPC based pdas. From software applications to Operating System and from battery efficiency to form factor and quality Palm powered devices are hard to beat. You have to have really strong issues not selecting a Palm.
Hopefully PalmOS6 will help things for getting AmigaDE to the platform.

Hopefully PalmOS6 will help things for getting AmigaDE to the platform.

Lets hope the synchronizing (sp) is on par and troublefree as PocketPC.. From a non technical point of view / user point of view PocketPC is the easiest to use (when sync. with a Windows based PC, ie at work), and (IMHO) easiest to troubleshoot for a normal user. (Note I'm talking average _users_ (or managers ), not IT folks or Amiga Users)
