As I supposed when it was announced in September, it doesn't support the edonkey network... or so I read.
Still not very useful to me, but it could be a start. Thanks for the hard work.

So, what are now the file sharing alternatives on Amiga? AmiGift, Direct Connect and... anything else?
Does BitTorrent work with AmigaPython?

Well, it could also have other useful benefits. Imagine if you will Amiga users putting files up for share that are required for certain apps to run. Instead of having to go to Aminet and fiddle around through all of the directories to try and find a library, or worse, trying to find out what catagory something is filed under, you can just open this client and do a quick file search which will save you half of the hastle.

Need mpega.library, just open the client and do a search....That is really a simplified example, but it really does have a legit use other than sharing MP3's. Although I'm sure that will happen as well. Another example is sharing a video from a recent show event, and making it available for download. That will create a huge resource for downloading without putting such a strain on individual websites traffic limits. Like anything else, people will find good and bad uses for it.

huh????? released??

i dont know why brian announced this as there is a line in the LIST (mailing list) stating ...

Quote:
BTW, please do not announce the release!, I need to finish all sections.

so as far as i can say (without checking further since i have no test hw etc) this release is not FINAL as in for everyone but final as in "all features is implemented" and its 1.0 , among other things that still is needed is the install procedure + better docs (which i have been working on for quite some time)

anyway to all who touch this, enjoy it and be sure to email diego about it as its a fab thing but install and docs are still abit shoddy though once up u will love it..

ps:to ryu and others who have issues , clean up the stuff in envarc: and reinstall/conf.

Hi,

I'm still waiting for software that will let me buy tracks (legally) for $0.99. That way I don't have to worry about swat teems or FBI.

well I've had a semi working version of bittorrent working which does not rely on python.
(called ctorrent), it does connect etc.

but since noone apparently know ######## (anything) about tcp v6 on the amiga it's not being finished.
(and that one is apparently not that reliant on v6 to work actually)

Edited - HWGA

Quite correct, it COULD be used for other purposes, but we all know for the most part it won't be

I'm sure it would turn up all sorts of "stuff"... I'm thinking you would have to be a bit more descirptive like "AmiGBG 2004" or similiar for search strings.

Well I have no objection whatsoever to someone searching google.com for "AmiGBG 2004 Videos" as I know exactly which website they will end up on, the first pagefull all refer to videos on the same site (Which for some reason I can't quite work out, that website seems strangely familiar )

Well here is explanation: to make it work [as it didn`t work to me at first too] - you`ll have to install all latest [from archive] MUI classes, libs and sound datatype [WOS sound datatype didn`t work to me so I installed 68K]. Then program will start.

Then go to preferences and select UPLOAD directory [I didn`t know so I selected 378MB upload directory and it took over 40 minutes [!!!] on 060 to program calculate all uploads and create one upload listing file]. When it was done - I selected another UPLOADS dir and put there just few images.

Then - open [with CED for example] gift configuration file [called GIFT.CONF] and set following lines:

setup = 1

and scroll down to another line and set it to:

plugins = OpenFT:Gnutella

THEN it will work.

Another tip - go to CHAT window and if something does not work - ask there [chat work all well] :)

dj.

Hi djnick

only the first time, the daemon takes a long time, to build the share file.

Go to Preference-daemon-sharing and check "Share completed"

The next time you'll run AmiGift, you will be online in few seconds.

Remember to check "Save Settings", in Preference-client-main EXITING.

Ciao

BTW- use always the GUI and set ONLY the 3 supported Protocols ATM:

OpenFT
Gnutella
FastTrack

@Framiga

If I choose anything but OpenFT I will get that socket-error. It works with OpenFT but nothing else.
