Software News   Software News : AmigaAMP (2.12) released
posted by _Steve_ on 21-May-2004 14:20:35 (3490 reads)
Thomas Wenzel has released another update to his hugely popular PPC MP3 player AmigaAMP. On his site he writes:

I'm almost certain that I've forgotten to fix some of the known bugs but I'm also certain that I've finally fixed some of them! :))

Some WSZ skin files have their images stored in a subdirectory rather than the top level. This is now supported. Newer versions of ID3v2 tags still can't be read but at least they don't prevent AmigaAMP from loading the classic ID3v1 tags any more.

If you've got questions please use the discussion board first. I will check it regularly.

Yes is a very cool player

I hope that the author would support the WMA format in the future release

The last version I installed was 2.10. It is however my Amiga MP3 player of choice, and I too would recommend it to anyone with a machine capable of running it.

yeah this player is awesome and most of all u can notice that its actually used some time on it, hence it wont crash as much or at all compared to other players atm.

AmigaAmp is by far the most stable PPC program that exists for the Amiga! It just runs and runs for weeks on my A1200 while I surf the web, program, e-mail, and everything else! I not for my life remember when AmigaAmp was the reason for me to reboot!
It happens, rarely though, that AAmp might finally be the one crashing the computer if some other earlier program have crashed and screwed up the system (Frogger or AMP, hint! hint!), but then any program could be that one...

I mean, about those movie players: How damn hard, exacly, can it be to write a movie player that does NOT write outside its own memory screwing up everything else unkess it just plain crashes or hang the entire computer???? Ok, if it has other bug like not syncing audio/video, cannot play some formats, looses audio or something, just keep yourself withing your memory, *pleeeease*!..

Hurray AmigaAmp!
Boo Frogger and AMP.

It's a very good player but it doesn't work all that great on OS 4 at the moment.

Amplifier works better on OS 4.

Do any of you have problems with Subspace_Wos crashing? It runs here for a few minutes and then freezes. AmigaAmp doesn't crash. Just Subspace.

Maybe I will have to try again then. I had the problem that it more or less slowed the system down too much.

How do you play the MP3 with AmigaAMP? Via the mpega.library and which one?

Nope, I tried. It still criples my system. It might be a non native mpega.library but as I recall, Amplifier also uses this but is less intrusive.

Even if I don't play an MP3 the text of an MP 3 moves slowly just like the boing ball which is not the case when run under OS 3.9

Only the Subspace Plugin freezes not AmigaAMP.

Ciao

Thanks for checking. That's exactly what's happening here. It's one of those things that I could watch for hours. It'd make a great screen blanker. Shame it only runs a few minutes.

What are the minimum specs for running that player?

An Amiga with a PPC processor. So either a BPPC, CSPPC or Amiga One. It is possible it may even run under MOS, but I am not sure about that, nor have I seen any confirmation of that.

It doesn't require a PPC. You can use it on any Classic Amiga but I think 030/50 is minimum to get uninterrupted playback at lowest quality. A 060/50 should be able to play 44k1 but with low quality setting if you don't touch the computer ;) You need to configure AmigaAmp to use mpega.library (68k) for this as the engines are PPC only.
