Software News   Software News : VirusZ (1.01) released
posted by _Steve_ on 4-Jun-2004 22:06:47 (2615 reads)
Georg Hörmann has recently released a small update to his Virus Checker - VirusZ III. He asks urgently for feedback from VirusZ users, in order to learn how and whether his software has been used in the last 13 years.

Changes since the last release:
  • Fixed bug in Bootblock Lab which caused "Write" and "Install" to end up in a disk i/o error if "Ask Before Write Access" option was enabled. Thanks to Ronald Schakelaar for the bug report.

  • Fixed password handling for encrypted archives: a correct password has already been remembered for all files before, but cancelling the password requester because you don't know the correct password would have caused new requesters for *all* files in the encrypted archive. Now VirusZ also remembers the cancelling and will simply report all following files as encrypted. Thanks to Thomas Tavoly for reporting this problem.

  • Fixed bug that appeared after a sector check when checking disks that have the same name as their device (eg. disk labeled 'DF0' in device DF0:). Inhibit() is in fact a very simple DOS function that easily gets confused, so I added a little workaround for this problem. Thanks to Thomas Tavoly for the report and beta-testing.

  • Added lots of snapshots sent by Michel 'DMX' Bagmeijer and Andreas Kürzinger. Thanks guys.

  • Fixed bug in code calling disassembler.library: the library might have been opened several times but closed only once. Thanks to Michel 'DMX' meijer for the report.

  • Fixed bug in preferences loader: the 'Display SegTracker Info If Available' options got switched off every time you (re)loaded the settings. Thanks again to Michel 'DMX' Bagmeijer for this report.

  • Changed distribution from FREEWARE to MAILWARE as I need feedback for further development. Currently I have no idea at all how many active users are still out there...

  • Download VirusZ III (102,890 bytes LHA)

tbh, I haven't bothered with any Virus checkers for years.

Although with OS4 landing & interest growing I can imagine more of the buggers will rear their ugly head... Like forcing people to play high speed 3D action games instead of working. It's gonna be a bummer for getting any work done!

I will defo be using a virus checker on OS4. VirusZ may be my first stop.

FuZion.

I used to use it on my A1200/A4000.

I inherited lots of disks that were infected with something... can't remember what. I'm glad it was there - I was able to check the disks before I used the software that was on them!

To the author: Please continue development of this program. I will use it when my A1 is complete (with OS4). At the moment my main machine is a PC.

I use VirusZ III on all of my Amigas (aswell as pushing it on friends Amigas if they lach protection) and I would like to be able to continue with that in the future... so please don't stop the support of this great tool! Without VZ I don't know what other virus tool to chuse. I guess lately there've been less and less new viruses and as it takes the old viruses uppdating might seem less and less needed but I fear that with the new machines and OS4 this trend might change and I would like to see VZ there to my rescue.

I have been using VirusZ after VirusChecker, for years, I haven`t really come across that many Amiga viruses for ages. Now that AOS4 is due out, a AOS4 version would be useful as viruses can run the new AmigaOne due to the 68k emulator included.

THANKS a lot to Georg Hörmann

I use VirusZ from a life . . . even if no more in my WBStartup.

The most incredible thing, is happened some months ago. I had VirusZ in Storage:

I had inserted a floppy with a cracked game of a young customer of mine and VirusZ, has auto-launched and detected a custom bootblock or so. . . could be possible or am i fool?

Storage isn't even in the path !?!

Ciao

I'll be needing a Virus Checker when I get OS4. So yes bring it on.
