| Great!, Now all we need is a version for OS 4 to run PC applications without dealing with Windows! |

LOL, I now added "Linux, OS X, AmigaOS and BeOS" to make sure people don't think this relates to WinUAE for Windows.
Anyway, IMO this could turn out to become a nice approach for emulating certain classic Amiga chipset "banging" software (mainly A500/1200 games) within AmigaOS4 more transparently!
The WHDLoad patched versions of most classics offer many enhancements compared to the disk based originals and ADFs (fast loading, bug fixes, highscore saving, copy protection removal, no more disk swapping, etc) |

IMO preferably people would not need to bother with the CLI though.
For instance imagine clicking on an icon for Alien Breed, Dynablaster, Supercars, Trap'n'Treasures, Turrican or for whatever other Amiga classic within AmigaOS4, this initializing UAE and then directly executing the classic WHDLoad installed game (without AmigaOS 3.x Workbench) and for instance with a key combination like ALT-ESC being able to quit UAE immediately, getting you back with the AmigaOS4 desktop in front of you. |

In my next AmigaOS version, there will be support for starting UAE from WB. You'll be able to double-click on a config file (assuming it has an icon with UAE set as its default tool) to launch UAE with that config file.

Cool, great to hear that.
Are you going to integrate this patch too? |

Great, of course WinUAE already offers this feature and thus allows ADF games to be configured to run semi-transparently with Windows. (Click configuration shortcut icon => Lauch WinUAE with ADF images in virtual drives wthout having to deal with Workbench or loading a configuration file / configuring by hand within WinUAE)
But ultimately I would like to see preset configuration files for the various WHDLoad classics specificly. Often UAE users fail to get software to run and encounter errors with some configurations, consuming much time tweaking. Back2Roots already offers downloadable tested-configurations, but sadly mostly only for ADF versions.
To be honest with WHDLoad versions now being available and much improved I don't care that much about ADF emulation anymore. |

I'll have at look at it. I hadn't heard of it before today.

| What I would be looking for would be a setup where my Amiga Apps would be treated as though they were Mac OSX apps. In other words not so much an emulation of an Amiga computer, but a setup more like Apple's setup with ?Classic? on OSX, where you click on a Classic app and OSX handles that app almost like one of its own apps. Does UAE provide for this, or must I wait for a different solution? While I do intend to buy an AmigaONE someday that will not be a solution to this particular problem. There will always be people who?for whatever reason?cannot afford more than one computer. A better solution would be a setup that is transparently integrated into the OS of that computer, not a kludge that makes their one computer seem schizophrenic. Mac's ?Classic? approaches that, but we can do so much better. _________________ Life without the LORD is like a soap bubble without the soap. Without Him, you are nothing.

| @Billsey:
I think that's what the built-in emulation in OS4 does, assuming the 68K app does not hit the hardware. Did pre-MacOS X programs bang the hardware a lot? I'm completely unfamiliar with the Mac, aside from some general knowledge. |

Yes, that's has been done about the same way with AmigaOS4 from a user perspective.
The Macintosh didn't really have special custom chips like classic Amigas did and in the long run this was an advantage as software is far easier to migrate/emulate. For instance that's a reason why Amigas equipped with graphic cards had little trouble with "emulating" MacOS and Mac software. (Sometimes, even faster than an equivalently powered Mac). However to do vice versa one would need an UAE-like emulator, emulating the custom chips, thus introducing severe performance penalties.
Luckily AmigaOne (and PC/Mac/etc) hardware is powerful enough to compensate these performance penalties and run A500 / A1200 games without problems. |
