Software News   Software News : Get a slice of classic gaming for OS4.0
posted by evilrich on 12-Oct-2004 3:38:05 (4408 reads)
Find an OS4.0 build of Freedroid, an open-source re-implementation of Paradroid, that classic from the days of the C64, at http://www.rcdrummond.net/amiga/.

Have fun,
Rich

@ Richard

The above link only goes to the kobodeluxe page.

Thanks anyway.

LOL!

And there's plenty more where that game from. I've been messing about with a bunch of SDL games for some time while trying to shake the bugs out of our SDL implementation.

Cheers,
Rich

It's Freedroid classic - not the RPG. (See the bit about the 'Classical Freedroid' on the Freedroid home page.)

And it's not a port as such - merely a tweak. There were not a huge amount of changes required to get it running on OS4.0 with libSDL.

Cheers,
Rich

Richard, you are great!

I already made a donation for UAE some time ago but it seems to be time to make another one; just give me a nice OS4 UAE version and I will think about it

Ciao, Alfred

It needs OpenGL which is not yet available for OS4.

@DaveP

Have a look at the Freedroid site. It has links to old reviews, guides etc. Reading those made me understand what it was all about.

Rich,

Would you mind telling me a bit about how you go about porting (or tweeking), ie what environment do you use (cross-compile on a linux of some sort? or on an A1/OS4?). If under OS4 how do you deal with the configure scripts? or do you build the Makefiles manually? If under Linux/Cygwin, could you (or even someone else) tell me how to install and make configure/make/gcc use the cross compiler?

I must admit the C isnt usually too much of a problem for me, but finding info on the above subjects is a bit difficult. The sooner we can run configure scripts under OS4 the better I say..

Thanks

mark

Was just playing paradroid yesterday using VICE x64 on my A1, cool game.

I think a version for the Amiga was released called Paradroid 90 or something, I have a coverdisk demo some where. I'll not have to find it now .
