| It could be worth a mention here, but this package is not just limited to the A1200. I use a Zoom Prism based 802.11b card and the wireless driver on an A600.

| A good point and I have tested it on an A600 - it works fine but the limited memory means that when you start running network client apps on it you soon run out. Time for an Apollo A630 then.. _________________ Amiga Kit Amiga Store Links: www.amigakit.com | New Products | A600GS

| Well, yes, I suppose I could have mentioned that, but having an A630 with 32MB on it kinda makes you think everyone has one :) _________________ Simon

I hear you brother! As you know I have the upgraded A600 as demonstrated at BB2. I will consider one of these cards, but just need to find a reason to justify. Although my Router is wireless, my A600 sits nearby and there are 4x LAN ports on the back... It might be handy for demos etc. grrrr... I might do... it might just be good to show that Wi-Fi on the classic Amiga is cool etc.

Unlikely by any stretch of the imagination... Perhaps one day someone will port the linux driver if there is one for that PCI card.
But if that's any help, I'll mention that all the files on my A1 got there through thin air, I mean, via its wireless connection
I'm pretty sure I mentionned this before but here it is again: The easiest way ATM to have a wireless connection on the A1 is to use an ethernet-to-wireless bridge.
I use the Linksys WGA11B ($60) which supposedly is a game adapter for the PS2, Xbox and GameCube, but it's a bridge so it works fine on any device with an ethernet port.
D-Link has a cheaper bridge with more power and features but it requires a java-capable browser for the configuration.
Before buying a bridge for the Amiga, check if it can be configured without running some proprietary windows application. The ones with web-based java applets might not be as problematic on the A1 as they could be configured from Linux.
Normally I wouldn't buy nor recommend a device that can only be configured from windows, as is the case with the WGA11B, but its protocol is very simple so it's possible to make a configuration interface with ARexx.

Anyone known if do there drivers works with PCI boards like Netgears' one?: http://www.netgear.com/products/details/WG311.php It could be used with AmigaONE....

In the news message about the drivers they say:
"A beta version of a new wireless network driver is available for download. It supports PCMCIA cards in the A1200/A600 and PCI cards on the AmigaOne."
I don't have an A1 so I don't really know, but if you find a pci card with a supported chipset then it might work. |

| As an introductory offer, the Wireless Networking package has been reduced by £5 for the next week or so.

The Netgear WG311 card mentionned has one of the chipsets that's not supported. Any Orinoco and Prism-based PCI card might just work with that driver from Sept. though.

| Easynet is a GUI for AmiTCP3 written by us. Its only distrubuted with our networking kits. It's a good way for Amiga users to get networked quickly an easily without having to pay for Genesis or Miami.
The current version is 0.08 and 0.09 will be released soon to registered users. New features include: standardisation of internet settings in the same format as the new OS4 TCP stack, browser/email quick launch, Connect to Shares GUI, new connection wizard and segragation of the Wifi settings as a separate program. | The card looks remarkably similar to an old DLink DWL-650 card (see here) . I should know, I have one It doesn't have a great range, but it's otherwise a good performer. _________________ La fortuna è cieca. La sfiga ci vede benissimo.

| Yes it does, although Ive havent tested the DLink 650- most probably DLink rebranded the cards for their range. _________________ Amiga Kit Amiga Store Links: www.amigakit.com | New Products | A600GS

| hehe I have a DI-614P and a DWL-650 (not the 650+) and it works fairly well. I do have to admit that the Windows drivers and the router firmware itself have been shaky for quite some time, but now it's pretty stable (more than 2 months in 24/7). Last edited by sgm on 11-Nov-2004 at 02:52 PM.
