Software News   Software News : AmigaAMP (2.13) released
   posted by _Steve_ on 26-Dec-2004 12:14:11 (2596 reads)
Thomas Wenzel has released a small update to his MP3 player AmigaAMP for both 68K and OS4.

Changelog since 2.12:

It's Christmas Time! :)

Ok, just bugfixing this time and no new features but that's better than nothing, isn't it? OS4 users might be interested in the revised mpega.library support so that it now works correctly with libmad as well. Directories containing brackets are no longer rejected when trying to add them to the playlist and an ID3 reading bug after using the prefs program is gone as well.

For further information and access to the discussion boards, please visit the AmigaAMP website.

Download AmigaAMP (2.13) (541KB LHA) and OS4 owners will also need the Updated Prefs Utility (27KB LHA)

Btw, I assume it isn't actually os4 native. Correct?

@Orgin,

I believe you will find it is 68K, with PUP/WOS engines for those classic PPC users.

Great

But, I just found a little thing today, that I don't like...
AMP has become a registered trademark of PlayMedia Systems...
Does this not meen that AmigaAMP has to change its name, Just like FreeAMP had to do?

Oh no!... now amplifier manufactureres will have to change the name of amplifier to something else. There also might be other words that have amp in them like damp, champ, clamp, cramp, stamp, etc.. this could be alot of work!

Seems to run more smoothly but still getting 'no output device available' when I try to open a file.

You are not allowed to make a trademark on a word in common use (TM). What they seem to have is a Registered Trademark (R) much like Windows is in relation to desktop Operating Systems. However their trademark is in relation to MP3 decoding routines. As such I doubt players using AMP in their title would be affected.

I have also looked on the for it registered in the EU and couldn't find it here or on the UK's patent and trademark registered site.

In fact I'd give up on doing anything about it. It seems to only be registered in the states, and another company also has the word "Amp" registered in relation to computer applications playing music etc as shown here.

In fact... after looking some more, they Registered the word PCAMP not AMP as their site indicates, so they lied See here.

Seems those links were based on my session, hopefully this will be ok.

Thanks

It is a bit funny - or maybe not - that freeAMP did lose its name becourse of PlayMedia, when they don't own the name...

@ikir

Actually, I fixed the AmigaAMP-Prefs in september or something. I think I made a thread about it back then...
