Software News   Software News : AmiMSN (1.0 WIP) released
   posted by _Steve_ on 11-Jan-2005 15:15:09 (2908 reads)
AmiMSN is an MSN messenger client for the Amiga.

It is written in AREXX and uses rexxreqtools.library, rxsocket.library, rexxdossupport.library and rexxsupport.library.

It has been compressed into an executable for easy use.

AmiMSN is the only MSN messenger client for the Amiga that supports the ability to send and receive files. It uses the MSNFTP protocol to accomplish this. Sender must not be behind a firewall.

It spoofs as MSN Messenger 6.2 for maximum compatibility.

It is primarily a console client, but has been coded to allow any IRC client to act as it's GUI. It is similar to BitlBee but adheres a lot more closely to RFC 1459 for compatiblity with most IRC clients.

Some recent changes include since (1.0rc5):
  • Fixed: Now works with all .NET passports. (Previously only worked with hotmail.com accounts)
  • File transfer via MSNFTP support added. Sender must accept inbound connections. If you are using this through WinUAE and have Norton Antivirus 2005, you NEED to completely disable Norton Internet Worm Protection before you can send files.
  • Changed: AmiMSN.cfg now requires you set a default initial status, or you may start AmiMSN with an argument.
  • Fixed: ReadCList() function couldn't parse a contact that was pending authorization and not in your forward list. This also cause the DETAILS command to crash AmiMSN when it encountered this.
  • Fixed: ADDUSER would crash AmiMSN if you tried adding someone who was in your database but not on your forward list.
  • Fixed: ADDUSER would crash AmiMSN if you tried to add someone who was already in your contact list.

Hi there,

This is good news! Looks like everyday I'm seeing something exciting happening in Amiga Scene! Yesterday "Remote Desktop" today "AmiMSN"

Is it compatible with OS4.0?

Thanks, good luck, and keep up the excellent work,
Firbodi

Works well, but I would prefer a stand alone GUI, better than jabber as it works just like Messenger 6.2 but is a little cumbersome without a GUI. Perhaps someone could write a front end for this and then I could use this all the time.

@Firbodi

Provided OS4 has AREXX or can fully use the 68K version of AREXX and the 3rd party rexxlibraries this application needs (all 68K) then there is no reason it shouldn't work on OS4.

@Steve

True. And it works. And damn quite well indeed!
I hope someone adds a GUI to it...

I can´t get it to work, I probably need some new librarys but the main problem is that the readme-file says that you should put AmiMSN and AmiMSN-IM.rexx in any directoy of your choice. There are no such files in the archive that the link refers to. To only files present are AmiMSN.config and AmiMSN.rexx, except for the readme-files. Do you need the previous version to get it to work or what am I doing wrong?

I have uploaded a new file to the website.. AmiMSNHOWTORUN.txt for anyone who is confused on what to do..

Also FYI.. The .readme is constantly updated with new asterisks (*) added all the time.. The changes are not since 1.0rc5, they are since 0.6.

Thanks for all the compliments!

Feature requests will be accepted ;)

After a lots of messing around with different librarys I got it to work. Good stuff in deed but it really needs a GUI.

Hi guys ('n' gals too).. The challenge algorithm for MSNP11 has just been released, and i've made my own implementation (unfortunately it needs a couple of 3rd party programs because of 64bit integers but it's not slow, infact it's slower on a 2ghz PC running WinUAE with JIT mode on, than it is on a 68040/40 running SystemPatch).

Anyway.. Basically, the new protocol will allow me to add custom away messages in the future.

Just thought someone here might be interested in that news ... Not to mention I've got nothing else to do but post here at 5:00am in the morning after being up for 21 hours straight..

Ok i'm going to bed now.
