The good news is yet to come, this is just a minimal update. It was originally part of a larger update to integrate the editor and its C/C++ mode with the OS4 SDK. That part, while completed on my side, is awaiting approval. I hope for a release date next week. The needed servicepack is released independendly and in advance because any update of the C/C++ mode, due to its size (89-159 MB per user), tends to eat my permitted bandwith before I can say Indiana Jones. |

Fantastic! I'm glad you and Hyperion were able to work something out in the end.
I know I'll have to give GoldEd another try now that it is being properly tested on OS4. It was just too buggy for me way back when and I didn't feel much like becoming a GoldEd beta tester. _________________ ExecSG Team Lead

I'm sure the editor contains bugs but I don't appreciate it if it is described as buggy. It could just as likely have been the OS that was to blame or both or none. Generally speaking, GoldED is compatible with OS4 only because OS4 is compatible with OS3. That creates problems. Anyway, I usually don't get bug reports from OS4 users. Either GoldED works well with OS4 or OS4 users are very lazy to write bug reports. I hope for the first but fear for the latter.
@rinaldo00 > what is 89-159 MB? microgolded. Just kidding. The C/C++ package. It contains a lot of compilers and software development kits.Last edited by dietmar on 15-Apr-2005 at 08:43 AM.

MicroGoldEd works flawlessly on my OS4 setup.
Hopefully my new job (if I get it) will allow me to upgrade to the full GoldEd in future. |

| GoldEd AIX works without faults on OS4 for me. But you should have a newer version since the region codes have been changed in OS4.
Only some plugins, which require ixemul don't work (htmltidy in my case which is the thing I miss most, because I'm not really good in html) |

That would be easy to fix, there is an OS4 version by Edgar Schwan. Copy it over golded:add-ons/webworld/tidy/bin/tidy and see what happens. It's not included because an OS4 user told me Tidy works, regardless of it needing ixemul. Add-ons that depend on ixemul: 1. ispell of the spellchecking package Joyce (this one can not be replaced with an OS4 version because a special ispell is required, it must have a Rexx port) and 2. all 68k gcc compilers. Nothing else (that I can think of). |

| Oh, thx.
I will try that at home. Didn't think too much about it because you wrote me that ixemul was needed. |

| I have had some problems with the service pack installations on OS4. Also this service pack causes a Grim Reaper after the "Installation completed...Please continue installing the updates for Golded components (bonuspack). The GM is generated at "a1ide.device" which is strange, while it's useless for me nowadays (having a SIL680 IDE card). Here is a piece of the crash log: --- Crash log for task "a1ide.device" Generated by GrimReaper 51.4 Crash occured in module kernel at address 0x01417790 Type of crash: DSI exception
Register dump: GPR: 0: 0141C878 01972E10 00000000 01890A70 00000014 014157E4 01478A5C C0000000 8: 000000FF 00000100 018E8818 01890A70 000000FF 00000000 01840000 C0000000 16: 01840000 01840000 01840000 FFFFFFFC 01840000 00000000 01840000 0000C003 24: 018E86AC 018E8670 00000000 01840000 00000000 01890A70 01890A70 0141C5B4 ... ----
Happily, the new version of GoldEd seems to work (so far) so it should be some kind of install script problem?

Unlikely. The installation is trivial except for the fact that it seeks through a 64 MB file. Let's see if the large file plays a role: Uncomment the line that starts with (run "programs/encrypt ...) and install again. Please use the GoldED forum for a follow-up, specifically the forum for bug reports. |

I also experienced (random?) crashes from time to time related to a1ide.device after installing a sil680. If you don't use the a1ide at all anymore you could comment out the line "MODULE Kickstart/a1ide.device.kmod" in the sys:Kickstart/kicklayout file and do a cold reboot. It worked for me at least.
@dietmar GED is working quite nicely on my OS4 setup. Thank you for your hard work! I'm really looking forward to the announced update. |

No user of the name I is registered with me. Please note that in order to download updates for GoldED AIX and microgolded, you must be registered for one of them (and not, for example, for GoldED6). If that is the case, you might have mistyped the number. Contact me if not. |
