To have an idea of how many AmigaOnes there are (as no official number is revealed).

@poweramiga2002

Of course it is impossible to accurately get the number of owners doing a survey like this. Going to Eyetech direct and asking is the only 100% way. But of course they aren't going to give out the numbers to the general public (and thus their competitors).

But if you do have friends that own XE's, please fill out an entry for each of them and make a note of it in the comment section.

The interesting number that is coming out of this survey, however, is the number of people who "plan" or "don't plan" to purchase an AmigaOne, and their reasoning behind the decision. This information will be passed on to Hyperion and Eyetech. Hopefully they will listen to it.

It's not even possible to get an inaccurate figure with a calculable error margin (e.g. 30000 + or - 150).
What it might give a very rough idea of is the number of active users with access to internet who can read English, frequent Amiga-oriented forums and think it's worth replying.

@x56h34, I tried to think up such a line, but alas my poetic and iambic powers have deserted me! Yours is GOLD!

oh well, I'll say the obvious: the purpose of this survey is for the self aggrandizement of the person who is holding the survey. The more respondents he receives the bigger the thrill.

It cannot be used, as so many have pointed out, in any scientific way. The margin of error isn't known. Since it is a religious type thing, (see the quote above about spreading the word)... you can expect a lot of false positives.

In the amiga community this is huge...you could just as easily find more amiga one owners than there really are...I remember a while back I wanted a better determination of the popularity of the various amiga websites, and there is a public website that ranks the popularity of websites based on the results of their million plus Alexa toolbar users ... not a controlled scientific survey either, but at least a large survey group.

Well except amigans will install the alexa toolbar and then frequent a website over and over just to fudge the numbers.... not that mattered to me at the time, because I was more interested in the type of response the fanatics could generate to fudge the numbers...in other words, I was precisely interested in the dynamic it was producing anyway....

but, to close, this isn't about anything useful for eyetech. Does anyone else see the false logic? In one posting they say that only eyetech has the true numbers, making the survey necessary....in another posting the purpose of this survey is changed though, it is to help eyetech determine interest and future sales... but they said eyetech already has the true numbers....

like so many things amiga, its a kind of dorky time waster.

It'll be interesting to see the numbers, but as you say, I'm not too sure how useful they'll be.

BTW I've been looking at setting up a similar system myself (see this thread from December) but the coding was a bit beyond me so I had to get someone to finish it off - don't know how complete it is yet. If I can get that running, it'll be able to provide detailed breakdowns of figures by OS version, processor type etc, as well as time series of changes.
