Software News   Software News : Path 1.2 now for AmigaOS 4.0 only
   posted by mailman on 1-May-2005 20:08:35 (3262 reads)
Alexander Weber informs: http://www.alexwe.de/path/index_en.html
Path-Amiga is an attempt to write a web browser from the scratch. The project started in the second half of 2001. The project has been on hold for some time (since early in 2003), because I waited for the release of AmigaOS4.

This is a complete port to AmigaOS4. I'm afraid that previous versions of the OS will not be supported anymore.

The HTML support is still very basic, so it doesn't make much sense surfing through the Internet with it yet. But this situation should better with the next versions.
Have fun with Path!

* Requirements:

A computer with AmigaOS4

* Features:

o Reaction interface
o Minimal HTML support
o Clipboard support
o Support of DOS files
o Support of HTTP1.1
o Graphical buttons
o Preferences window for changing fonts, colours, GUI
o Graphical printing
o English and german localisation
o Protection against the Pipe security hole

Interesting :)

Is this a one-man or team effort?

We have a fair few browsers in development now - It will be interesting to see what the situation is with them in a year's time!

No offence but Path 1.2 isnt even anywhere near IBrowse or Aweb standards.

New software is always good, but will you be able to turn this browser into something killer? I hope so..

-edit: typo fix-

Hi, all!

I hope you don't put too much hope into this project. It is not meant to fulfill the browser needs on the Amiga platform or even to compete with the existing browsers. This is just a hobby of mine that I work on sometimes in my spare time. Just like people build model railways.
But thanks for the nice comments. And thanks to Mason for the nice browser icons. I have forgot to put the thanks into the docs, I will do so in the next version.

Alex.

Well, as long as we all get to enjoy your hobby - keep at it!

Hopefully you're starting with CSS before you have too much of the HTML rendering set in stone

Using "voltage" instead of "potential", which leads to inventing new words like "amperage" instead of "current" (I, measured in A) or possible "charge" (amperehours, Ah or Coulomb, C). Sometimes I don't even know what people mean.

I hope I have made my rendering boopsi class flexible enough already. You can for example move elements to another place. But CSS is a long way ahead...

Alex.
