Software News   Software News : SopoBlock and d3GNOP go OS4 native
   posted by Lu0ma on 29-Jun-2005 21:47:59 (4892 reads)
Silly MiniGL based games SopoBlock and d3GNOP (plus d3GNOP+ and I,Meteor) now have native OS4-updates available!

Download update-packages and see installation info from here:
http://www.nic.fi/~varsa

SopoBlock is a fast paced and fun puzzler, d3GNOP and d3GNOP+ are feature packed Pong-clones (yes, it is just as silly as it sounds) and I, Meteor is a weird... umm... somekind of a puzzler or a really bad simulation, I guess.

Those are some really cool games! It's so refreshing to see original Amiga games again. Get yourself a PayPal account and I'll send some beer money your way.

ahhh.. amiga original stuff... feels really fresh between the SDL linux stuff.
(nothing bad in SDL ports though, i'd rather have that than nothing).. .
sopoblocks was fun, and worked perfect.. .
degnop was ok and didn't work perfect. when the scores come up it makes a hault for a second, the screen freezes and the sound keeps playing, like it's waiting for the voice to shut up before proceeding.
and the keyboard is way to 'fast' i can't choose the middle alternative, it just scrolls by it, doesn't matter how fast i click the up or down arrow.
seems like both games share the same engine, weird that one works perfect, and the other doesn't?

haven't tried l'meteor, it wasn't free was it?

i'd love to see a platformer with the red amiga 'I' thing as the main character. maybe similar to devil dice in the respect where it has to 'roll' around a level, but maybe activating switches and solving puzzles.....of course i can't program for $#it, but not to worry - lol

spottie:

use the numeric pad in the menu as that is not as fast (easier to navigate)

anyway i,meteor is not free. , its donation ware...send him a gift per snail mail or soemthing.

and no d3gnop (summer? 2004) is an old game and sopoblock (december) i a new game so there is differences..

anyway luoma doesnt have OS4 so well he had to work remotely anyway i have tested theese for a long time and there is no issues i could see except for the menu thing as u described.

cheers

@spotUP:

As ToAks said, you can use numeric keypad as an alternative, or add -delay n when starting the game. The "fastness" may be due to work around hack for lowlevel.library 51.3.

Anyway, the games are great and quite crazy. I wonder if the author is planning something around Tetris or Arkanoid ;)

"No enough memory
Couldnt open screen"

GLMatrix too give me that's output sometimes...

WHY?

I've:

G3@666
VooDoo3 3000 16MB
512MB ram

Tuxedo.

P.S. The games give me grim reaper too after...

use snoopdos.

keep in mind the os4 version is just a tiny update to the whole game(s) so you need the main archives aswell.

@Tuxedo: I don't have a Voodoo card so I hope that someone could give real help...

Do you have any idea how much you have got gfx mem left? Do you have large workbench screen + other screen in use?

Does window mode work better?

tux:

ermm A VOODOO?

i missed that part...you have run out of RTG memory.
set workbehnc prefs to show FREE RTG memory in the wb tool line (yes CHIP mem IS NOT RTG MEM , RTG is whats on your VOODOO card.)

16mb with os4 is too little , two screens opened with skins and 1024x768 and smart refresh = boom you have no more rtg mem.

Tuxedo:

here is a walkthrough to set rtg mem in the top workbench line:

1. Start sys:prefs/workbench
2. Screen title format (middle section in workbench prefs)
3. set cursor on the line in screen title format press Insert
4. now select a title format item (a manu appears) here select: Memory (top left corner) , select Video (type) , Free (show) , MBytes (unit) and then press Insert.
5. save prefs and you now have the new line active.

TUX: no its not too low but if you want to run theese games while you have huge skins on wb and several screens up and so on... forget it.

i have 16 as max on my 1200 belive me...it runs out faster than i can say "fghi" ;)

for such a card you should have 2 diffrent workbenches , 1 for this stuff (games etc) and 1 sexy one , anyway u will get further with a voodoo4 or 5 (as they come in 32mb) , or just grab a radeon 7500 128mb :)
