Software News   Software News : Envy24HT AHI driver
   posted by jiyong on 2-Jul-2005 22:37:30 (3326 reads)
Check it out on Os4Depot, new AHI driver for Terratec Aureon Sky, Phase28 and M-Audio Revolution 7.1.

In the readme it also states: The Aureon Space and Revolution 5.1 should also work but are untested.

A big thank you to Davy Wentzler, the author of Audio Evolution

Excellent work, Dave! This must be the 24-bit AHI-drivers for these mentioned soundcards then

Perfect!

I have one more coming using the same Env24HT chipset and AKM codecs. The analogue in/out and digital out are already working. Hopefully I'll have it done in a week or so.

Is that the same chip as used in my Terratec DMX 6Fire 24/96 I have in my PC?

If so I will have to add one of the above cards to my shopping list for my Amiga One as they are in a hole different class when it comes to sound quality for music play back from the Creative sound blaster and Audigy range.

Both of which are much better than the onboard audio offered my the ac97 codec used on the uA1’s if like me you have you computer connected up to a good quality Amp and speakers.

Any chance that the LiveDrive would work?

@Dwyloc

The DMX 6Fire has older Envy and AKM codecs in there, so I think you'll like the Phase28.

Note that the uA1 doesn't have an ac97 codec, but uses a CMI8738 which happens to be both a PCI audio controller and codec in one chip.

@Crusher

The LiveDrive from Creative needs additional code, at least for some parts IIRC. You can ask Martin if he can support it, but I guess you'll need to send him a LiveDrive first then. But why buy Creative when you can buy something decent?

Yeah I know, I should buy an M-Audio or similar but I got my SBLive with LiveDrive when I bought a Server Tower Case a couple of years ago so...

But I recall that the M-Audio cards have something similar as the LiveDrive or?

No, they use completely different chipsets and since there are no docs on Creative chips/cards, this makes it harder to support them.

Do like me, Audigy 2 get lost and buy some better and
really supported card. If creative wont give docs for amiga
people then why should we buy/use them.

In the begining we had to use them as there werent that much
drivers out. Mostly for creative. Today its another melody :)

Yes some M-Audio cards (Delta 44/66/1010 for instance) have a "breakout box", i.e. an external box with inputs/outputs connected to the PCI soundcard (in a similar way the LiveDrive is connected to the SBLive!). However, no way the Live! could be compared to the Deltas as far as sound quality is concerned. Neither the LiveDrive is of much use, as for example its mic preamp is very very very noisy, and the IR control never really worked for me.

Too bad I cannot send my Delta44 to Davy as I intended, at least not at the moment. I had to return my FireWire Audiophile due to some issues, and the Delta is now again up and running in my PC. It's a great card, and its price is now about a half of what I paid for it three years ago.

Regards,
Trixie

@DaveEA

What Envy24TH-soundcard is the best one for me to buy at the moment, that supports this driver in OS4 at the moment?

DaveAE please stop making these highend drivers!
You will make Helgis wallet empty!

Seriously though, great work!

On a side note, how's E-UAE developing going?
Any new version due out soon?

@Samwel

Thanks!

Regarding E-UAE, I have nothing to do with that! IIRC, that's Richard Drummonds work isn't it?

I meant Audio Evolution

Or are you putting it off a while in favour the new audio system?
Btw this audio system of yours, is this an official OS4 thingy?
Or are you doing it because AHI lacks features and you can't
wait for Hyperion to make the new?

I suppose AHI is limited to 16bit? Which is a bit limiting if you
want to use it for studio work.

Hehe, ok.

Currently, only bug fixes and small enhancements. The rest of my limited time will be spent on eXtream. It's not an official OS4 'thingy' (yet). AHI is not limited to 16-bit anymore btw. You can read about eXtream in the last Total Amiga magazine.
