Software News   Software News : Protracker 2.3d beta for OS4
posted by jahc on 26-Jul-2005 6:57:01 (2761 reads)
Per Johansson who ports Protracker to OS4, together with Ronald Hof and Timm Müller, has agreed to release the current beta (280KB). The program was released with permission and may not be mirrored elsewhere without contacting Per first.

This was released at AmiGBG 2005 where an entire CD was released with modules, demo effects and other nice tidbits. Per has some other projects going, which you can check out here, including screenshots of Protracker. Should you want to download the CD released at AmiGBG, it is available here too.

I was going to post this as a news item yesterday but was concerned about permissions etc so thanks jahc

I downloaded the beta yesterday and plan to have a look tonight.

Amiga trackers have always been great, although I haven`t used Protracker for at least 10 years, it is a welcome addition in the absence of any kind of MED!

Rude!

Uhm, i got a really weird error when i loaded up my LCP compo work tune today and wanted to do some work. All samples was played with a real high pitch???
ProPlayer plays the tune just fine.

correction, i looked at it again now, a bit closer.
it loads the pattern data as it should, but the samples are all wrong.
say one drum sample that is supposed to contain only a basdrum, also contains some voice samples and stuff after the drum. kinda like booom-hey-tshhhh.
why is that? are my samples too big? the module is saved in standard 'mod.' format in protracker 3.61 on my a1200.

The AmiGBG Protracker ISO is now available from the same place as the Protracker program itself.

OK, found out what really caused the bug now.
The mod was started out in Digibooster and some of the samples where bigger than 65k, and I didn't notice that when I exported to mod format from Digibooster, as the 'real' protracker (3.61) swallowed them, and played the samps as it should, but it looked weird in the sample editor. PT2.3 AOS4 version didn't know how to handle it, and reacted like this. Say sample #1 'drum' is bigger than 65k then sample #1 will also be in the beginning of sample #2 'Voice' so sample #2 will actually consist of the last part of sample #1 and with an appended sample #2... uhm.. hard to explain en english, but do you understand what I mean? Mabe you should implement some kind of check, if samples are bigger than 65k then print out a warning, and ask the user how to handle it?.....
