Software News   Software News : RockBEAT released - software drum machine
   posted by jahc on 19-Aug-2005 10:11:08 (5254 reads)
RockBEAT v1.0 Released

What is it? - RockBEAT is a simple software drum machine for AmigaOS4. It is a tool for musicians that allows you to create drumming tracks. It can create multiple tracks, each one being 4x 4/4 measures with 16th notes. You can save individual tracks as wav files, or the whole thing as one big song. You can drop in your own 16bit 44100Hz PCM WAV samples in the drumsamples/ folder if you like.

Import your drums into Audio Evolution and lay some vocals and guitar tracks down beside them, or just jam along. Great for the bedroom guitarist!

Looks very nice, even given my acoustic guitarist predudices against all things drum machine

Got a couple of tecnical glitches with it though.

The first time I downloaded and ran it, nothing happened when I click on the icon,
but then very file access until rebooteed gave a yellow recoverable alert flicker.

Rebooted, tried again (with a fresh download) and it seemed to work okay.
But when it exited at the end of the demo period I got a program returned
with unfreed signals message imediatly after the demo message.

Both times I unpacked to ram: launched it with the program icon.

[edit]
Tried from shell prompt with 200k stack still got the unfreed signals error.
[/edit]

Using A1XE 800M G4 256M with sb128 soundcard.

One minor thing, How do I set tempo? :)
Accented drumhits and customs samples would be nice addition too.

Ack, I wish I had an A1, I would love to try this out.
I'm a drummer from way back, so this would be great fun!

Way to put that OS4 SDK to great use! You needed some software and you built it. Kudos.

@Jahc,

Hey this seems pretty good fun!

Are you going to add scrolling while playing and some sort of play line marker
to indicated the current play position?

Cheers,
Bean.

@Jahc

Looks like fun!
I'm at work and can't download it until later..

For our Synth owning friends, does it support MIDI?
Adding CAMD support should be fairly easy if you want to.

Great Stuff!

Nice work James.

I just used this to keep my daughter playing at a steady tempo during her clarinet practice - she usually slows down half way through one of her trickier pieces.

(Edit : practise/practice)

@yoodoo2

Speaking of which, I need to get back behind the clarinet and finish learning at least ONE of these tunes:

Trouble is, how do I find time for all this crap?

Great work Jahc,

If you add a current position marker and automatic scroller and the known issues, i will register as soon as i get next payment.

The reason for not being able to move the png-files, isn't that because you perhaps missed to Dispose the reaction-bitmaps? (same thing happened to me, in my program)

Still very cool with original software. Thanks
