Announcement   Announcement : Aminet update - October 2005
posted by nicomen on 4-Oct-2005 19:53:26 (5386 reads)
It's been a while since last news update. Aminet is alive and kicking as never before. There has been 1089 uploads since February this year where of 295 are for AmigaOS4 and 232 for MorphOS.

We've added quite a few features and fixed quite a few bugs including Web uploading interface (Thanks to Björn Hagström), customizable RSS feeds, filtering sitewide based on preferred architectures, a daily update mailing list of new uploads and much more:

2005-10-04
* (FEATURE) (WEB) Added upload stats
* (FEATURE) (WEB) Even/odd coloring of listings to increase readability
* (FEATURE) (WEB) Rearranged menus to keep them at a minimum, moved RSS, Mailing list and stats to Services menu entry. In addition the RSS and Paypal icons were removed. Support was renamed to Donate.
* (FEATURE) (WEB) Provide customizable RSS-feeds (requested by tokai)
* (FEATURE) (WEB) Sitewide architecture filtering, check the Setup page.
* (BUGFIX) (FTP) Shouldn't be possible to read the priv subdir of the /new dir

2005-10-03
* (FEATURE) (MAIL) Added aminet-daily@aminet.net list to subscribe to daily updates on Aminet. Send an e-mail to aminet-daily-subscribe@aminet.net to subscribe.

2005-10-02
Quite a few changes since last time:

* (FEATURE) (WEB) Add HTTP uploading
* (FEATURE) (ADMIN) Add single archive deletion and adding thru admin.php command path/file
* (FEATURE) (ADMIN) Added possibility of overwriting existing files when moderating.
* (FEATURE) (ADMIN) Moves deleted files into a folder instead of deleting them entirely new/priv/refused
* (FEATURE) (ADMIN) You can now flame people at any time during moderation, this is good if you need to advice the uploader while fixing his error
* (BUGFIX) (MIRROR) if you try to add a .readme file it updates the file belonging to the readme and its meta-data
* (FEATURE) (ADMIN) Proper mail aliases should be set up. aminet@aminet.net is our public address. moderator@aminet.net is internal for moderators and mirror@aminet.net is for mirror maintainers and mirror issues. Web server is running at denise.polarboing.com using Exim4, sa-exim, Spamassassin and Mailman.
* (BUGFIX) (ADMIN) Fixed error with spaces in filenames in admin.pl
* (BUGFIX) (ADMIN) Added fuser check in every10.sh which should hopefully avoid moving files that are being uploaded. *But is it working properly?* YES! Now it is, by moving the file out of the way instead.
* (BUGFIX) (WEB) File isn't readable/writable by aminet group when uploaded thru web interface.
* (BUGFIX) (WEB) We need the webserver user to be in the www group or make all files writeable by the world. The later is easier as I can do it myself. Reason is so that one can update .readme files etc via web interface.
* (BUGFIX) (DB) Adding MEDIUMTEXT field to listing.listing_content as TEXT was too small for game/role/wesnoth.lha
* (BUGFIX) (ADMIN) Fixed filename length checking
* (FEATURE) (WEB) Show version on listings

Could you put the lines:

We've added quite a few features and fixed quite a few bugs including Web uploading interface (Thanks to Björn Hagström), customizable RSS feeds, filtering sitewide based on preferred architectures, a daily update mailing list of new uploads and much more:

in the catch phrase too?

We include Aminet Latest Uploads Block at www.amigaturk.com since last month. ( RSS Block )

But I discovered that , sometimes http://aminet.net/feed.php doesn't show all links at Aminet recent uploads page.

Do you have an example and I'll look into it ;) Could it be that there has been more than 10 updates between two downloads of the feed?

Right Now This links come from RSS Block ( feed.php )

·mus/misc/flite-morphos.lha
·dev/misc/lib3ds.lha
·comm/www/IBrowseSP.lha
·game/misc/stransball2.lha
·game/misc/netpanzer-src.lha
·mus/misc/freedb_copytracks.lha
·mus/misc/flite-ppc-amigaos-src.lha
·mus/misc/flite-ppc-amigaos-bin.lha
·gfx/conv/ImageMagick-MorphOS.lha
·dev/misc/libmng.lha

But Recent Files page lists these :

AlephOne-MorphOS-src.lha
AlephOne-MorphOS.lha These are normal Because I coded " check every 1/2 hour )
When I chose " Refresh Life bookmark I could see these. But they will be on my index.php in a few minutes later.

xnet-rss.lha
xnet-rss.lha
cal3d.lha
lib3ds.lha
liblcms.lha
libmng.lha
netpanzer.lha

and ..... You can see some of them not listed in Feed.php

I see both of the AlephOne files in feed.php and in the RSS-reader of Firefox (Yeah Trying it out, but it's a PITA compared to Opera)

Hmm, MAYBE only the files that are updated (replaced) doesn't show... That could be since it's currently sorted by the date of the package itself, but it shouldn't be the case. Weird.

They both listed when I choose "refresh live bookmark" ( as I wrote )

But some files listed below them missed in feed.php.

I have seen some missing files before.

@turkamigaman:

Try http://aminet.net/feed.php?num=50 and it shows, it seems like your RSS client doesn't poll often enough (or we moderate files too fast ;)

I've increased the default entries to be 20 now, so it should probably be less of a chance that it happens.

I am sure you will do your best. That was the biggest bug I can found. I will check again.

( I use Firefox for handle Aminet RSS on my Toolbar folder. And www.amigaturk.com is PhpNuke Site calls http://aminet.net/feed.php in a block.

If possible ( Like Amigaworld.net Recent articles ) another block alternative I am ready to include on my site also.

I am very happy Amiga community has Aminet.

@nicomen

Woohoo! Aminet daily emails are back!!

But since I haven't checked my emails for the last few days, I don't know if the old list was salvaged, as in if I just started getting them again without having to re-sub. Will we need to re-subscribe to the list even if we were subscribed to it before the old site had died that last time?

@all

BTW everyone, expect to see an updated Thor file database parser soon if the format of the Aminet daily emails has changed. I should be able to work up a fixed one rather quickly, and keep it as 68K only (I still have my old SAS/C compiler installation up and working). If possible (and with appropriate permission from the original author), I'll include an updated Thor AREXX script to do the same as my compiled program.
