Announcement   Announcement : 16 Days left to Win an Amy'05 board - Read on.
   posted by Troika on 25-Oct-2005 18:08:43 (6348 reads)
The “Give Amy her Face”..Contest ends on Nov.12, 2005.

Rules are very open: We are looking for one standard design that will clearly identify the Amy series of computers. Amy needs a face plate for both a desktop (horizontal) and tower case (vertical). All entries must be submitted in jpeg format and will be judged by Troika. Enter as often as your wish. That’s it that easy!

You don't have to be a graphics wiz to enter, and today as an added incentive we are releasing our Amy contest kit. The kit contains screen grabs taken from different cases, along with the Troika logo, and the Amy’05 *logo. The kit can be downloaded at:
Contest files

Now we have made the process easier... Get designing !!!
Send all entries to: newface4amy@troikang.com along with a working return email address with your entry.

@TheDaddy

Very nice concept. It might need a teak here and there to work (don't know if two optical slots could work like that, would be nice if possible though), but it's still one damned nice concept.

Okay, I wasn't going to post mine here either, but here they are:

http://ncscaug.game-host.org/images/amy_flex_desktop.jpg

http://ncscaug.game-host.org/images/amy-mini-tower.jpg

and one more in Mid tower with alternate checks:

I did these and sent them before the rules were ammended with the Amy and Troika logos, but I'm not going to change them now, since they were already submitted.

Never say never mate, who would have thought a few years ago Amiga OS4 would be in production?

@Herewegoagain

I don't know about you, but...erm....where you horny when you thought about that case? Don't get me wrong, it is a very attractive case but with honesty it have some deep sexuality in the design of the case.

Hi,

I have two designs on my homepage:

amiga.hermanssonproduktion.se

Just quick concepts on a desktop and a tower-model.
Let me know what you think!

Hi again,

I was thinking that for as much as I like most of the designs seen here, I would suggest to keep it original otherwise there is really no point!

Just go to any micro itx shop and you can buy any aluminium case like the Travla and X-QPack stick an Amy'05 or Troika or even Amiga logo, Troika save LOTS of money, you get a good quality and tested product and there you go, all done.

I have told Troika as well, we need something original, not seen before to attach to any ready to buy case. Something with the spirit of the Amiga in it at least.

A simple engraved Troika/Amy'05 simply won't do and certainly won't stimulate interests in buyers. A brushed aluminium faceplate with a sticker simply isn't enough. Come on guys we can do better, a new computer needs to differentiate itself from the stuff already out there. Think Apple designs, see how they are quickly identified with Apple and not with generic pc stuff?

The alternative is: we buy the motherboards and choose whatever case we want, like the Antec Aria, stick a boing ball and off you go.

I would like to see something completely unique and not any other pc case.

Am I the only one who thinks it like that?

TheDaddy

@Foody

???? I certainly don't see anything slightly sexual in that design. Maybe you just have a really good imagination.

Don't expect too much if only the faceplate can be customized.
On small cases that's even a bigger limitation as most of the surface is taken by drive bays, vents and connectors.

The best look can only be obtained by designing the whole thing, and that includes the keyboard, mice and monitor.
But when cost is an issue, that's not really an option.

Hopefully some will come up with some nice design we can be proud of, but the rest of the case will still look like a PC because that's what it is, a PC case.

You can still give the faceplate or front of the case an Amiga look can't you?

You can make the whole front of the case and attach it to two or three suitable mini itx or micro atx cases (already mass produced).

What I meant was: " I can not see the point of getting an already existing faceplate and engraving the Amy'05 logo in it, I could save some money by just buying an Aria case and sticking an Amiga logo on it and be as happy"

I would like to see something original or Amiga-like, something that has a hint of an Amiga. Where is the DNA?

We can make it look like the evolution of the original Amigas can't we?

When you look at an A500/1200 you can quickly say that' s an Amiga and you don't need to make the keyboard and monitor, just the face should do.

That's what I tried, there's not that many design cues to use but they all had lines somewhere (from the A1000 right up to the Walker) and of course the engraved name. I assume they don't have the right to brand their machine with Amiga but the Amy'05 logo in the old font is close enough.

They need to be moulded into the plastic, a sticker on the front would not be the same.

It'd be nicer to be able to do a completely new case al la Macs but that'd be rather more costly...

@TheDaddy

Okay, I see your point. Since the 2/3/4000 were plain boxes, a custom-molded faceplate would be enough to make the distinction.

IMHO it should also say Amiga.
Amy is okay as a model designation like 4000 but not as the machine name, or it might as well say "Almost an Amiga".

And to that end it would be best if the original Amiga logo with rounded letters could be licensed and etched into the material, because that's the only thing that's always been consistant on all the Amiga models.

I totally agree with you AmigAlex!

In my opinion the use/licensing of the Amiga name or just the boing/tick should be a must, together with a nice custom moulded front with an Amiga feel.

I can't stress this enough. Even just the complete face that clips on to one or two already mass produced mini itx/micro atx models would be good to call it an Amiga.

And yes, the Amy'05 could be one of the models...like A500/A1200/CD32....Amy'05.

:)
