@Elwood: the rules were somewhat strict which must have had affect to amount of participation. That said, there is development going on all the time. I was positively surprised that there were 8 products that actually qualified to enter this content.

The projects that you can support: YAM, clib2, WookieChat, Bit by Bit software and many more.

Note that I'll pay the shipping fee to send the hardware to Jahc first and then pay the various websites/devs.

I think that the contest was a great idea and that 8 projects entered.

I think that left over money should be donated to BITbyBIT software for making it easier to make native OS4 software.

Or you could make a devcontest 2006

Maybe more would enter the contest now…

I agree entirely. A lot of work took place on MindSpace during September/October which wouldn't have if the DevContest hadn't been launched, as the priority was mean to be the Linux version. As it stands, the Amiga version is ahead in terms of functionality.

We ran 5 Recursion Computer Fairs before hitting the exit condition

The money could be to help some 68k coder that is poor and would
contribute with cool os4 programs if bought a A1 hardware for him/her.

Sure it could be used for A1 users already like someone told the
khtml port. There was also a guy that coded on a totally new browser
Pahitia or something like that heh. Or someone that could port a
cool midi/audio tracker. Could be whatever. Or keeping the money
as a bounty until its big enough for a a1 hardware (if found anywhere).
Could be used for someone that wants to port some cool soft.
Could be a nice gfxpackage etc. Dunno

Yep, I also think it is realistic to assume that more than -one single project- will enter the contest in time.

This is positive to hear since it shows that user-support is definately there. I see the developer-part a bit more critical, though.

A real pity, but after all the idea and the contest itself were good.. i'd have participated
myself, if i'd have seen any chance of finding the time... oh well...

Anyway, i'd love to see such a contest next year again... maybe with some fresh ideas,
not that strict rules and with fresh enthusiasm

Oh, some - constructive meant -critics: Maybe you should just have the deadline extended
until 1. January 2006 or sth. and give the others one more chance... even if only 1 or 2 more
projects would have reached you, at least it would have been more like a contest maybe not..
And also beg the participants to death some weeks before deadline so they concentrate
on finishing a releasable contest-version

But again, bottom line for me is: Give us another contest in 2006!

Yeah, take half of the money for Dev Contest 2006 !
So the projects that didn't made it for 2005 could participate in 2006.
I think they deserve a second chance, since there was a lot of activity.

I would have entered, but I knew my time was limited and a little bitty; and it was this that put me off. A shame really (for me!) seeing the amount of progress I've made on my project over the last few weeks, but you have to draw the line somewhere.

Thanks for providing this contest in the first place, there have been positives from it. Well done to Jahc!

In regards to the money I think it should go to the Frieden Brothers and/or BITbyBIT software. The Frieden brothers have done so much to move our platform along, that I think we sometimes forget the things they have been involved with and have worked on. A small token of thanks wouldn't harm.

Similarly Jamie's BITbyBIT software is really starting to take shape and will help with the growth of software in the future.

Well, glad there are at least 8 of'em. Would have liked to enter myself with WBMakeLink, but I ran into a serious case of 'LoK' (Lack of Knowledge). In its current (released) state it is not what I would have liked to enter a contest with. Gradually gaining in knowledge it may result in the release of V1.1 around X-mas. This very year.

On the other hand I'm glad to read that James Carroll has earned the first prize. Tried his program and it gives nice results, allthough I'm not into drumming. But my son is and he says it's quite nifty!

I'd like to see the extra cash go towards developers that directly supported OS4 with native software. Jamie for SDK Browser + AVD, Davy for eXtream + AHI drivers, Olaf for too much to count, Stephen and team for DvPlayer + libs, Richard for UAE + SDL, etc.
