When you click the link it opens a new window (or trys to) Ibrowse demo is limited to one window and therefore doesnt open a new one

Hehe, yeah I noticed that already when I first got OS4 and was using the iBrowse demo for awhile.

Solution; move my iBrowse keyfile to the A1XE!

Another perfect illustration of how we can get both the response "it does work"
and "it doesn't work" from users of the same program.
At least, in this case, we shall now remember this and can advise people having
any problems. (should really be added to the FAQ on AW usage with browsers)

Best Wishes,

@tomazkid

From memory, OS3.5 sold something like 50,000 and OS3.9 significantly less (20-30,000).

IIRC that's the number that Haage & Partner were aiming at for mininum sales in order for them to "consider" cotiniuing development of the OS. I don't think it actually ever sold that many copies. Actually I think I remember reading somewhere that the number sold was much lower, but H&P went on with OS3.9 despite of it not selling as well as they had hoped.

OS3.5 sales: 13 000+

**Much** lower than 50 000!

And the only readily available hardware is the Pegasos2... I don't get why you *wait* for some other hardware that may or may not come. Not to mention the Pegasos already had different revisions,... and is proven to work correctly.

Please make sure to read what was said before making non-sensical comments.

come on... Do you really believe this did not happen just because Amiga, Inc. ignored Acill ?

Anything to back this up? Or are you just "guessing".

A1 owners are enjoying OS4 for years and they are even waiting for an update next month. We, on the other hand, can only dream about it... This is not exactly fair.

I'm sorry if you percieve it that way, but the same line of argumentation could come from Pegasos owners, or 68k owners. OS4 for the classic is not finished yet, not in a releasable state because plainly, driver support on the classics is a mess.

And i really don't understand all this fuzz and excitement about PDAs. Personally, i don't think that it is even on-topic.

What topic? The topic is, if I can read, "Hyperion Q&A IRC Session Transcripts". PDA'S where mentioned as a target for OS 4, so yeah, it is on topic.

Anyway, Amigans are known for their patience..

I love this kind of comment.. It's exactly the reason why I stop reading threads on a regular basis.

They are not very hard too find, you know. You can buy those in several Amiga shops, ebay etc. and in a good condition, too.

You are kidding. Classic Amigas "in good condition"? The "solution" of putting this together isn't a good condition to begin with. I can hardly see any non-Amiga buyer interested in AmigaOS go and buy flakey old hardware and be content with it... If you want to make a point, please be serious.

ehm, fine, but don't you think session like these with potential customers are part of marketing too?

Not really. This was mostly for Amiga fans. We have a website for marketing, and a management that takes care of marketing. You might notice the total lack of marketing-related questions (except for this one which was about marketing, not to marketing)

Hyperion said (several times) that porting OS4 to some PPC hardware was not a problem (when speaking of time).

I always said that a port would take about one or two months, which means full-time work which must be covered somehow.

Quote:
And it's clear to me that if they was as open as you say, OS4 would be running on the Peg2 right now. Plus anyone could buy his Peg2+OS4 *right now*.

*sighs* Either you chose to be this way, or you really really cannot read. I think it has been said a million times now what the reasons are, so either you are saying we are liars, or you didn't understand a word of it. In any case, please go back a step, and DO READ UP on what you are talking before making comments.

Quote:
That being said, maybe OS4 as it is right now is not ready for a public (final) release...

And maybe the sky is yellow, and the water is red? Maybe you just don't the frell know what you are talking about? In any case, you are not in a position to make such a statement.

But no-one* originally bought a Classic to run OS4. People who bought an A1 did so specifically to run OS4 and have paid for it - that is why it is appropriate to keep them updated. Classic owners have no "right" to OS4 as they have not invested in the platform yet.

What I also don't understand is that he proposes classics plus Phase 5 card as "viable" while stating that the price of an AmigaOne is too high... If the latter where the case, then the former would be WAY too high.

Thanks for taking the time to come in here to reply. There's a few genuine queries in here but try not to let the flamers wind you up.

Have a good new year Hyperion.

@Rogue

Thanks for popping in!

This is one thread i would have thought you would have read, but not posted in.
Too many naysayers.

Anyway thanks for the IRC session, thanks for OS4, and can't wait for update4.

Unfortunatly, I wonder how long after the New Year we get the "When will OS4pre4 be released" threads.

Have a very merry new years eve, and (hopefully) a prosperous New Year.

Clearly by the time OS4 hits the shelves the PDA in question will highly likely be on the road to being obsolete so would it not make sense to release the complete package? PDA with OS4 installed as standard.

I bet the PDA was more of a example for showing the public that it could be done instead of an actual product.

Same here actually.

I was considering buying it at the time (and probably would have) but then my A1200 stopped working...
