The links issue appears to be that 'just typed' urls are converted into links by XOOPS in posts (but NOT in a news item itself, sigh) without specifying the target. Items entered with a [ url ] tag include the target part of the URL, which appears to be what is causing problems here..or possibly the additional space.

Either way, posted a link to number6's collection of 'hand typed' links in the news item itself, sorry this is hokey for those using Amiga browsers (although for some reason, registered IBrowse 2.3 seems fine with all of the originals, but not IB Demo???)..

Thankyou, Hans-Joerg and Thomas Frieden for taking part in this session and providing a very interesting update.

Thanks for announcing Update #4.

*rubs hands in anticipation*

Also, thankyou to everyone who provided the transcripts for us to read.

I just don't understand how people can be so negative. I mean I've been using Amigas since 1987-ish. I started with Amiga OS 1.1, then got 1.2, 1.3, 2.0 2.04, 3.0, 3.1 (with my CD32) etc, skipped 3.5, got 3.9. I'm glad to see AmigaOS improve and now running on "newer" CPUs than 68k.

I just seems like Amiga would be dead, like many seem to believe, if it weren't for Hyperion. If you visit this website or any other Amiga website and are still following AmigaOS then you have to be AMAZED that AmigaOS is still being devoleped at all. People that complain it's not done yet have to be crazy. I mean if you have waited this many years, well then at this point it doesn't really matter. AmigaOS 4 is out there. If you have money you can get it. Period.

I completely agree that AmigaOS 4 release should be held off until there is hardware to run it on. Seems like people are complaing about bad marketing of Commodore, but at the same time can't figure out how it would be a horrible marketing move to release on OS with no hardware.. Jeez.

Anyway, thanks to the developers and people putting time and money behind such a crazy venture as AmigaOS. I really enjoy (love) using Amiga for my general computing. It's just a lot of fun ( imaging computing being fun Windows users? )

Oh yeah http://precinct600.com/amigaworld/ is the best link by the way!

Since Hyperion is also stymied by the lack of hardware, it seems to me that we should be
grilling Eyetech on just how many systems have to be pre-ordered before they will actually
do something for us!

Thanks to you two for the very informative interview...

Now if you only be able to tease us with some hardware info (details)
"CELL" doesn't ring a bell for me

to a great coming 2006

ehm, fine, but don't you think session like these with potential customers are part of marketing too? So why hyperion let some1 from 'PR division' visited the chat with you?
At least there should be some man in black who know at least a bit about marketing saing 'no comment, next'. It would sound more professional of him coz he know LOL

Eyetech is not to blame for the lack of hardware.

???

Of the "amiga triad", Eyetech are the ones with the many years of experience selling hardware, including but not limited to Amiga hardware. Apple and Genesi have no trouble getting hold of PowerPC CPUs, which is the reason that Eyetech has always given for the lack of boards. I can see Apple getting the lion's share of those CPUs, but I very much doubt that Genesi got *all* the remaining ones.

They did not.

I assume that the ACK boards will come first and shortly after that the Troika. This has to happen in January/February since you cannot create momentum in the summer (or later) of 2006. The people that have hardware are covered (they can play with it) but people that are waiting for new hardware so that they can use OS4 are not going to wait forever.

I also think that Troika is going to be the hardware for the final release. And for the ACK a Pre-release version I guess.

Acill offered money, but Troika offered time. Hyperion probably needs time more than it needs money right now (woudln't it be embarrassing if the PV or Troika boards were ready but the OS4 driver set was not done yet?)

Hyperion said (several times) that porting OS4 to some PPC hardware was not a problem (when speaking of time).

Quote:

It was quite clear to me that they were very open to the idea of OS4 running on Peg2 hardware, but the time was just not right yet.

And it's clear to me that if they was as open as you say, OS4 would be running on the Peg2 right now. Plus anyone could buy his Peg2+OS4 *right now*.

That being said, maybe OS4 as it is right now is not ready for a public (final) release...

Leo.

best of all...

The bad weather will be gone ... so...

I didn't said that i had the intention to buy an A1, mostly because of its price plus the huge post expenses. I am talking about the release of the OS4 for the classics. That's all.

But no-one* originally bought a Classic to run OS4. People who bought an A1 did so specifically to run OS4 and have paid for it - that is why it is appropriate to keep them updated. Classic owners have no "right" to OS4 as they have not invested in the platform yet.

Personally, I am highly dubious as to how many Classic/PPC owners are going to buy OS4 as a standalone product. I would wager that it is a smaller market than the current number of A1 owners.

Also, in terms of marketing, there is no advantage to be gained in releasing a product for 160Mhz machines with fantastically slow memory and disk access. OS4 on classics is an impressive feat, but new hardware is needed to show it off properly.

*Well okay, a handful of people bought classics secondhand or from "new" stock-but not enough to consider to be a real market force.

Does anyone know how many copies of OS 3.5 and OS 3.9 were sold?

Correct, is was the decision to go PPC in the first place that is to blame!

So you're blaming phase5 then?

"Eyetech is not to blame for the lack of hardware"

maybe not, but unfortunate they don't seem bothered updating their website to
explain the situation.

IBrowse demo will not work for a completely different reason:

When you click the link it opens a new window (or trys to) Ibrowse demo is limited to one window and therefore doesnt open a new one; Solution: Register Ibrowse.

Yep. Functionality of IBrowse (demo) and IBrowse (registered) is not identical.
That is why I had to settle for making my new links compatible with AWeb 3.5.07
and Voyager 3.2 only.
Cut & Paste -does- work, however. In IBrowse (demo) you hold down the left mouse
button over one of the "bad" links and "drag" it into the IBrowse (demo) url window.
(Remove other entries already in that window of course)
Then press "enter" and the link -will- be processed.

Your answer is better, however. Register IBrowse.

Best Wishes,
#6
