Leuven, Belgium - 8th February, 2006

Hyperion Entertainment announces the immediate availability of the fourth update of the AmigaOS4.0 Developer Prerelease.

The new features in this pre-release include:

* All-new Warp3D with support for Voodoo 3/4/5 and ATI Radeon models 7000, 7200, 7500, 9000, 9200 and 9250.
* Petunia Just-In-Time 68k emulator.
* All-new Intuition with advanced features like flicker-free window redraw and new screen dragging features (among other things, screens can be dragged freely in any direction and will reveal other screens beneath even if dragged sideways)
* Updated ExecSG kernel
* New Extended Input System allows the use of mouse wheels on both PS/2 and USB mice, and the use of Multimedia keyboards (with keys like volume control, play/pause etc)
* And much much more. Practically ALL components of the system have been updated.

Registered AmigaOS4.0-Owners can download the update in our Download area immediately.

Again, we would like to thank all of our customers for their continued support.

@CodeSmith

Quote:

I set the UBoot variable that allows the PrtScn/SysRq key to be used instead of ScrLk for the "Help" key, because I have one of those KVMs that use a double-tap on ScrLk to switch displays. Works great, no problems.

Until I tried to use the Exchange commodity. The hotkey for that defaults to Ctrl+Alt+Help. Guess what, on PC keyboards, for $DEITY knows what reason, if you press PrtScn on its own you get one scancode, and if you press Alt+PrtScn you get a different scancode (one yields 0x54, the other 0x37 IIRC). So since I guess the PC keyboard driver guy didn't know this bit of arcane lore, ctrl+alt+PrtScn doesn't pop up the Exchange commodity, because the event that Intuition is seeing is not [ctrl]+[alt]+[PrtScn], but [ctrl]+[AltPrtScn].

Since the keyboard driver is the software layer that is stuck with making something sensible out of the oddball behaviour of the hardware, I'm calling this one a bug... (should be a realtively easy fix, depending on how the keyboard driver's state machine was put together).

It's ctr alt scrolllock surely? Using a Brittsih iso-8859-15 keyboard.

Sorry Lyle. I forgot to start USBcontrol so no usb stack was started. Not strange i couldnt see anything. Your driver works here :) And also last time i played i choosed midi out unit 1 for unit 0 so everything i played went on to the machinedrum instead of the synthesizer itself. Changed that back :)
So no problems testing for 15 minutes :) Sorry again for false rumours.

Haven't got time to install it yet. A friend of mine is buring it on a PC.
I firstly tried doing it on FryingPan, but something happened that provided
an error when doing a full install. I only reached 38% when that error occurded.

Also, i got the same Workbench Screen-trash when booting into it, because
of Radeon 9200, but that could also this time be that the CD had a little
error since i couldn't do a full install successfully. I hope the CD that
my friend burns on PC, will work without problems...

I have my harddrives and CDRW/DVD-ROM connected to my Sillicon Image 0680
controller, so i'll try to boot only from the DVD-ROM. I'm sure i'll work it
around. It's a pity i have to wait until after the weekend, but i can live
with that. In the meantime i play alot on the XBox..Call me crazy, but i
love it

@Helgis

Like allready mentioned you can mount the ISO using a program. VirtualCD on aminet might work?

I can't believe you're not trying that, I couldn't wait to get upd #4 installed

Edit: Ok that program doesn't work but I know that there are a program that does (I've done it earlier in OS 4) and I even think that someone recommended a program to you?

Downloaded, installed, done the shopping and back on line.

Did anyone spot the error in the install pdf that was with the image

insert cd
switch on computer must have thought we were back in the good old floppy days when they wrote that part

I did get the grim reaper when launching the media toolbox during install but soft booted and skipped that part and all was fine. Must go to work now so will have to play another time but couldn't resist draging the screen one more time.

Downloaded this at work onto my PDA (nice having a 1 GB SD card in it), then burned a CD when I got home. Did an update install and everything went flawlessly!

Petunia is amazing! I've never seen IBrowse run so fast, even running in WinUAE on a VERY fast PC!

And having my scroll wheel back in IBrowse just completes it!

Only drawback is I wish there was a compatibility layer for older programs that are not likely to get updated for the new scroller wheel functions and other stuff. IBrowse gets it because of MUI, but Thor won't until Nicomen gets that port done, along with possibly updating it to make use of OS4 GUI classes. I seem to recall being able to use my scroll wheel to scroll the message window in Thor on OS3.9, both on my A3000 system and in WinUAE. It would be nice to have that back.

Also, is there any way to make the cycle-to-menu functionality for cycle gadgets work on older programs, like Thor? Anything that uses the new gadget classes gets it but stuff like Thor that goes through the old ClassAct classes interfaces doesn't get any of the new functionality, even though they are using the same classes as the OS4 stuff. I got used to having that functionality under OS3.9 because of one of MCP's gadget hacks that turned all cycle gadgets into popup menus.

But this is overall a GREAT setup, and much snappier than before all across the system! Thanks go to all at Hyperion! This is what I was waiting for, and it was WELL worth the wait.

Oh, and I also played around with the screen dragging for a while. That is just so cool!

Edit: darn typos!

I just found the MakeCD from the first OS4 CD, so i'll try with it
and find an empty CD-R that has not been used

@The_Editor

I use one of those at work, for CF (and occasionally various other card formats) and front-loaded USB (USB pendrive, USB serial ports etc).

It's so great I more or less specced one right into the PCIe projects towercase

@broadblues

Nope, there's a setting in the UBoot prefs (all it does is set a UBoot env var) that maps the Amiga Help key to PrintScreen instead of ScrollLock.

@Helgis

To get rid of trashing:

1) Stop the uboot process to get to UBoot prompt.
2) Type "menu" (without quote marks), and hit Return key to go to uboot menus
3) Change the boot device to point to your CDROM, depending on your setup.
4) Hit Escape key and select "Boot this configuration."
5) This takes you back to uboot prompt.
6) Type "boota" (without the quote marks).

The computer should boot from the CD without refering to an HD for kernel and stuff. Then, you should be fine.

That is quite a scant press release. I see the users are finding most of the obvious new features and improvements but they have a long way to go. Keep digging guys.. there be more treasure inside.

I also see the pundits and naysayers are having a very difficult time with your press release. Not enough to pick on it seems. Keep on tryin' guys/gals.

@firbodi

Why bother? Atleast 10 people have tried to help Helgis with this but the
man simply ignores every post trying to help him.

I wrote to him about how to fix this "trashing of the screen with 4 colors"
problem earlier in this thread.
Esc.. Edit Amiga Multiboot to boot from CD.. Use temporary.. Off you go!
Simple as that.

About the error in the burnt CD.. It can be that Helgis tries to burn at a too
high burn speed. Better to try lower speeds if you're not in a hurry.

Yeah, the most inspired I've seen yet was "MorphOS had all this 2 years ago". Whatever...
