Leuven, Belgium - 8th February, 2006

Hyperion Entertainment announces the immediate availability of the fourth update of the AmigaOS4.0 Developer Prerelease.

The new features in this pre-release include:

* All-new Warp3D with support for Voodoo 3/4/5 and ATI Radeon models 7000, 7200, 7500, 9000, 9200 and 9250.
* Petunia Just-In-Time 68k emulator.
* All-new Intuition with advanced features like flicker-free window redraw and new screen dragging features (among other things, screens can be dragged freely in any direction and will reveal other screens beneath even if dragged sideways)
* Updated ExecSG kernel
* New Extended Input System allows the use of mouse wheels on both PS/2 and USB mice, and the use of Multimedia keyboards (with keys like volume control, play/pause etc)
* And much much more. Practically ALL components of the system have been updated.

Registered AmigaOS4.0-Owners can download the update in our Download area immediately.

Again, we would like to thank all of our customers for their continued support.

@ssolie

Do you mean the OpenSSL? Or PrefsObjectEditor? Better Screen mode editing?
Or that we got locale with this release? AmigaInput? Screensaver?
JIT? Compatibility editor? Extended GUI editor? Better Intuition?
Large files? Has anyone tested this yet btw?

EDIT: Forgot extended input system with PS2 scroll mouse btw and extended
support for Warp3D. Also I could swear that I saw a MiniGL file somewhere
but could be mistaken about this one..

Please enlighten me if I have forgotten anything?

@Samwel:

Actually, try to compare a fresh Upd#3 installation with a fresh Upd#4 version numbers file by file and you'll find that probably there is not a single file which hasn't got one or several bugfixes,or improvements since then.
That's quite a job we've got here,so a thumbs up is in order to our exhausted developers, who have deserved a well earned break for a few days.

NICE! Come on, anyone wanna share a summarized ChangeLog?

(PS - I wasn't expecting W3d support for 9200..now it may be time to yank the Radeon 7000 out again?)

Nope, there's a setting in the UBoot prefs (all it does is set a UBoot env var) that maps the Amiga Help key to PrintScreen instead of ScrollLock.

Oh' didn;t know about that, if you don't use the scrollock key, it would seem the obvious workarround to to map it back again

Hi friends,

To Hyperions hard working programmers.

This is really a big step forward. To me most important:
All programs, I tryed before without success, are now running:

ImageFXlite

AmiTradeCenter - now I have a more comfortable FTP. The "onboard" ftp in OS4 is well working, but it's somewhat circularly to handle - it's more for "hardcore shell - fetishists".

Filer4 - my prefered File-Manager

and ... and ... and ...

Kindly
Alfred

Sounds like an exclusive for TAM perhaps. Besides, watching users find stuff is way more fun. I'm sure the updated SDK will provide even more clues as well.

Oh, almost forgot for those watching from the other forums..

@All,

I finally have Installed AOS4_Update4 !

It didn't start so well as when I tried to download the file Yesterday night, I couldn't see it... This was due to the version of OS4 I have being already registered by the previous owner...
Quickly I PM'd Rogue who quicly sorted that out.
So tonight I managed to download it on my wintel machine.
Then using Samba I transfered it to RAM: on the AmigaOne. But then when I tried to unzip it using Unarc, it failed around 94% with a Checksum error !
So I copy it to another Partition but it gave me the same error... I decided then to unzip it on the wintel machine using Winrar. No error. So I copy the content to the Amiga (Samba again...).
At the same time I download DiskImage from OS4Depot. Having never used it before I ran into some troubles as I forgot to copy DI0,...ICD0 to DEVS/DOSDRIVERS... Then to mount ICD0. Once done, I mounted the install.iso which displayed as if it really was a CD.
So Quickly I launched the installation choosing an Upgrade instead of the Full Installation under the strange look of my wife and my oldest kitten (Grace)... While the files are being copied I tried to explain to my wife what was happening... But before I finished the installation was complete !
Impatient as I am, I quickly did a Cold Reboot and stared at the screen looking for any changes... First one I noticed was the icon of my sub-docky which has slightly changed...
But then I tried what certainly most of those lucky guys tried already... THE Screen Dragging !
It worked great... So I launched DiskMaster2 and DirectoryOpus (which were so much faster than with Update3), and dragged again the screen... Then to the surprise on my wife's face I decided to press [Shift] and do it again... And the screen moved in every directions !
Then I launched dnetc which seemed a lot faster to launch and re-start its crunching which itself seemed faster...
WET was the next application. No problem. Still works as before (Very Well, Thanks Chris)
Now it was time to try the Mouse-Wheel. I use it a lot while surfing the Net !
I launched IBrowse, AWeb, Voyager... The Mouse-Wheel didn't work with AWeb, but perfectly with IBrowse and AWeb.
Time to have a little break from all these excitement. I started dynAMITe... First time I clicked on the "Global Server List" it returns "Could not connect [ERR_UNKNOWNHOST (1)]"... Clicking again, it works and I'm in... The sound needed to be adjusted, but then no problem. When I quit it, I always got the Grim Reaper which I only got occasionally with Update 3...
YAM still works fine (a tad faster to launch maybe).
So excited I want to see what's going on the IRC Channels... So WookieChat here I come... It's now so fast to launch and connect... Before I had time to give a tiny hug to my kittens... Not anymore !
Next Screen Blanker... Nice little touch and seems to works great !
Under Prefs there is this new icon "Compatibility"... It's about JIT ! Not sure yet how to use it... But some Devs will certainly give us a quick overview about it ?
... Now I just wonder about MYST... YEAH ! It works fine ! Maybe even a tad faster...

Before giving it a rest, I just tried PPaint7 (From Cover Disk) It works faster than before, though I still haven't manage to sort out those icons... Well That will be a Dr-3Cag in a few Days... if I don't solve it this weekend...

Conclusion of the first impression: The System is certainly a lot faster for most tasks, ScreenDragging can give you a lot of fun (and can also be really useful !), Some nice new featues have been implemented like the Screen Blanker, and this Compatibility thing...

Well Now I have a few plans for the weekend...
1.> Send wife to shopping...
2.> Try Cinema4D (Rendering especially used to create "feature lines" or crashed)
3.> Transfer a few Apps from my A1200T to my AmigaOne
4.> Do a lot of download of OS4Depot and Aminet to try "new things" out...

Jerry

Well I found the PrefsObjectsEditor in SYS:Tools/. Looks like it could be very useful for the budding applications programmer out there!

:edit
Oo, and the Fancy.docky - one of Peter Gordon's methinks?

@broadblues

Did you even read CodeSmith's original post? He uses Scroll Lock to switch his KVM.

@CodeSmith

This 'ere keyboard tells me that Alt+PrtScn is something called SysRq which might account for the oddness you're experiencing. Are you able to map it to another key (F11 or 12 for instance)?

All that is 'lacking' now is Crisot doing a movie showing the world all the new stuff present in Amiga OS 4!

I couldn't resist and yesterday night I tried it !
Cinema4D launches faster than before, and thefirst rendering I did (Grayscales first) worked very well (and also fast to do it), no crash, though it was a small one with just one object... Then I tried a tad more advanced one, True Colors, Full Screen... Which gave me the Grim Reaper... Well I will do more testing this weekend...

The main disadvantages of Update 4 is that it's so good, it's really hard to stay away, and harder to go to work this morning, leaving it all on its own at home...

AGAIN, a big THANKYOU to all Hyperion Guys !

Question: Will we have True Transparency of AmiDock in the Final Release ?

Jerry
