Better late than never I guess but not by much, if the driver had been released in 1998 or 1999 it would have been more useful. As back then a 603/200Mhz PPC box running Linux would have performed not to badly but today it would just be to slow to run any of the modern distro.

By that token you could say that OS4 for classic is useless then. Or DSL linux.

No because I consider it to be a demo of what OS4 can do, which should help to encourage owner of classic PPC Amiga to try out OS4 before buying a next generation Amiga to run OS4 on.

Plus if it feels as fast as a 060 classic Amiga when running 68K apps or faster it will be useful to the large number of 040 owning BlizzardPPC user, as it will allow them to run their old programs faster. So even if it is to slow to enjoy DVD playback or run other larger PPC programs like Firefox or Quake3 it will still be useful.

The driver archive also includes a readme file with all the register information for all elbox's other FastATA controllers so I don’t think it would be to hard to create a driver for the FastATA 4000 based on this driver using that information.

No actually it is a Linux APUS driver. If you had downloaded it or read the read me you would know that. As such it maybe useful in the future if a new PPC card comes out for classic Amiga and someone ports Linux to it. But until then I guess it is of some wait limited usefulness

Oops, I dled the archive, I just forgot to RTFM.
It is more useful then but it's not the holy grail or anything.

That pretty much sums up my thinking as well, although it is of limited use at the moment if/when we get a modern PPC card that connects to an A1200 if we want to run Linux on it this driver may prove useful. But I don’t think it is going to sell any additional Fast ATA hardware at the moment.

If it had been released 5 or 6 years ago I would have found if very useful as I was dual booting Linux and Amiga OS on my A1200 back them.
